Hey guys. Are there places on or around Hilton Head that you can purchase fresh seafood to cook in your room or take home with you?

We have eaten a few times at Captains Seafood which is very close to the villas, and they sell seafood there. Chef Gordon mentioned that he sometimes purchases his seafood there. You could probably contact him and ask him where else you may go.

I will second Captain's Seafood for their variety of great, fresh seafood.

If you're looking mostly for fresh shrimp, the Publix by Wal-Mart often has fresh shrimp right out in the middle of the aisle in the back of the store. If you're feeling adventurous, you can go to the docks near the Salty Dog in late afternoon and buy shrimp fresh off the boat! There are also some places to do this near Hudson's (Squire Pope Road), but we haven't tried that yet.

When are you going? Not sure what the availability of some of these places is during of the off season, but Captain's is open year 'round.

Another vote for them also. It's a roadside stand just north of Shelter Cove on 278.

Actually, Captain's Seafood is south of the resort, on the right side of 278. It's also a sit-down restaurant -- not the fanciest, but the food is good!

Dean, I know the one you're thinking of -- it's right near where Abe's used to be. Bills Seafood maybe?

I didn't remember the name but it's definitely the place to go. You and I are thinking the same place.
