We're off to HHI in two weeks (!!!!) and I have a few questions:
1. Can you use your own fishing gear or do you have to rent?
2. Is a license required?
3. Are there DVDs or VCRs in the 1BR units?
4. I understand the beach shuttle stops running around 4:00 pm.
Is there a public access to the beach after this time, say to walk or drive to?
5. Any tips or anybody with an activities guide for May?

We'll be there the Sunday-Thursday before Memorial Day and can't wait!!
Thanks everybody!

I will try to help;
1. Yes, you can use your own fising gear.
2. We have never been asked but am not sure.
3. Last year it was VCR. They are going to switch to DVD but I do not know when.
4. You can bike, walk, or drive to the Beach House. I believe it is open to 10:00pm(maybe 11). Your keycard gets you in, you walk past the pool and through the gate to the beach. You can also walk through the cover parking(under the beach house) and directly to the beach.
5. Call the resort directly the week before and ask them to fax you an activities list. It should be very similar to the week you will be there. Make sure you do the dolphin discovery. We also enjoyed the nature walks and the crafts. Have your kids to the Gyatoka. There are a lot of bike trails on the Island.

Have fun.

As of late February, still VCR's. No one mentioned switching to DVD's.

first of all, you will have a great time. The rooms as of this past weekend had only VCR's. As for the free video rental, I have always thought that HHI had the worst selection of titles than any DVC resort. I take one of those portable DVD players for the car ride. I hook it up to the TV in the living room. The bedroom tv is bolted to the cabinet so you can not get to the RCA plugs. If you do not have a DVD to take, Costco and Target and Wal mart have cheap ones that work very well. If you need a non smoking room ask if 1131 is availible at check in. It is in the main building (live oak lodge) you have access to covered parking and an elevator. But best of all it has the best sunset view of all the 1bd. If you cant get it, don't worry, because the whole place is great.
