Hilton Head questions

We're booked for HH, early October, and it has been great fun reading the posts about HH. Thanks to everyone who has written! We're really looking forward to our trip!!

Two questions:

First, there has been mention on these boards about the excellent Dolphin tours. Someone said that the fellow, Scott, whom they really enjoyed has moved on to his own company. Would you recommend going with the Disney tour, or going off-site and booking with Scott?

Also, I have seen horseback riding mentioned as an activity. Where is this done, and any idea of the costs, and suitability for an 8 year old?

The advantage of doing the Dolphin tour through Disney is you can walk to the jetty from the resort, I'm not certain if this is the case with the guys "private enterprise"
The horse riding is about a 10 minute drive from the resort and takes place on and close to the beach, cost was pretty reasonable ( I wouldn't have paid it otherwise LOL) but I can't remember the exact cost. Disney only offer this on a couple of days of the week, the same tour can be booked direct on the other days but you need to drive and find the stables yourself. I'm sure there were kids of 9 or 10 in the group DD and DG went on, but it's never easy to guess exact ages of other peoples kids.

Actually, I haven't seen horseback riding on the Disney HH activity list for a while. But if you ask at the recreation window, they'll be glad to provide you with the phone number of the place so you can do it on your own.

There are a couple of stables. One just inside Sea Pines where you ride the nature preserve. The other rides the beach. I think the first is Lawton stables, at least this is the name that sticks in my mind. I don't recall the price, sorry.

Lowcountry Nature Tours is run by the people who did the dolphin tours for Disney in 2001. The captains are Scott and Darrin. The are located in Shelter Cove, across from the Disney property. Just a short walk across the bridge from Disney. Looking forward to dolphin watch & beach coming with them in a couple of months.

Another HH question--for rainy days is Adventure Cove a good place to go--our daughter will just be 8 by then.

and...what is your favorite thing to do at the resort??

Rainy days are good to do shopping, sit around the balcony at the resort, maybe some of the indoor activities at the resort or just sleep late. I didn't go to Adventure cove so can't speak to it.

Not for a rainy day, but my childrens favorite things to do (besides swim in the pool, swim in the ocean, swim in the pool, you get the idea ) is to bike ride back and forth to the beach and around the Disney property. Their other favorite is to crab fish off the pier at the Disney resort. We've only been in July so I'm not sure if this would be an option in October.

DH & DS7 (last year) did the kyaking in Broad Creek. They enjoyed that. This year, the "boys" (DH & kids) are hoping to try shark fishing. Our kids are 3 & 8.
