How far is the beach from the DVC property and what's the quickest/easiest way to get there? Is it a short walk over a bridge? Can you take your car? If so, where do you park? Thanks!

It's probably about 3/4 to 1 mile away.

You can walk or bike over (there is a path and it goes under the highway so you don't have to cross at street level.)

You can drive (you'll get a pass for Palmetto Dunes entrance when you check-in), and there is parking at the beach house.

You can shuttle over. I've never done this. In season, I think is on a schedule. Off season, it's on request. Hours are limited.

The Beach House is just over a mile away and is an easy bike ride or walk at already mentioned.

There is a public beach access right there, so parking is at a premium at busy times.
The free shuttle runs on demand from 10AM to 4PM. Enjoy!

What seems like a pleasant walk might not be so great if you're sandy, tired, carrying beach stuff, and it's 95 degrees. I might walk over, but I'd never walk back.

Do you have to bring your own beach chairs to the HH beach or can you rent? What do most people do? I'll be there for a week in mid Sept.

According to the map given to us a check-in, the beach house is 1.5 miles from the resort. It is a bit further to walk than drive because the walkway that goes under the main road is not directly across from the Shelter Cove (DVC) entrance, it is down the road a little. We shuttled over to the beach and walked back but crossed the main road directly - there is a traffic light but no sidewalks - you're really not supposed to be walking across at that spot.

The shuttle driver told us that she thinks the walk is more like 2 miles. I wouldn't want to be carrying anything (including small children) that distance. Also, it's not a separate sidewalk - just a yellow line separates the walkway from the (very busy) street and it's not that wide. I wouldn't want my kids walking along there unless they were at least teenagers. A few times we moved over onto the grass to let other walkers and bikers pass from the other direction.

It is an easy drive and there seems to be plenty of parking at the beach house. Another thing about the shuttle, it only runs certain times (I can't remember what they were) but you can also call from your room or the beach house (dial "1", I think) to schedule a pick-up. I don't think you'd ever be stranded at the beach house.

I would not recommend walking to the beach except as exercise. Distance is over 1 mile and traffic can be an issue.
However, the bike path is excellent and biking over is only about 15-20 minutes. We always bike when we stay.
Driving is also easy and we have never found parking at the Beach House to be a problem.
