Hi,

Can anyone tell me if August is a good time to go to Hilton Head? Does it rain noticeably more in August? Trying to decide for next summer. Thanks!

I'm not sure there is a big difference in the weather either way, but the only time we have not been able to make a reservation at 7 months was for HH in the summer. Unless you have points at HH, I understand it is difficult to book during July and August-not impossible, but difficult! We had no trouble reserving a 1BR villa in mid September. Would that be another option for you? Even early October is usually nice in SC!

Thank you for your reply! We do have points there and actually just returned from a great week there and am looking to book for next year. This was our first visit and fell in love with the place!

We can't wait to go back!

Well then, you'll be fine! This will be our first trip-I can't wait! :goodvibes

Hi Again!

You are going to love it! If you have kids do try to stay on top of the events going on as they do fill up. Also, if you are going to rent bikes do so on the first day as they run out of them.

:) Just realized your going in September - I'm sure it won't be as crowded as peak time.

Have a great trip!

Mary

We booked a 1 BR at HH for 9 nights starting in mid August a few years ago at 7 months with no difficulty (did do it day by day).

August is nice; it's slightly less crowded overall on the island than July (and it really starts to drop off the last 2 weeks as southern schools go back in session).

You have a slightly higher chance of hurricane weather coming by offshore resulting in rain for a full day; other than that the rain is hit and miss---a thundershower comes through quickly then the hot sunny weather resumes. The worst summer month for rainy/gloomy days is June. I'd rather go in August than June because the ocean is warmer!!!

We have been in late June, 2nd week in July, and 2nd week in August. The worst week was in July with extreme humidity, but that said, we have thoroughly enjoyed June and August with wonderful weather each time(80+ with lower humidity) perfect for beach and pool and evening activities. During the really hot and humid July, we had to modify the outdoor stuff-evening mini-golf was oppressive, beach under an umbrella was also very uncomfortable(the main pool was warmer than bath water..didn't cool you off at all-they even dumped laundry carts of ICE into it in the afternoon!) We use HHI vacation as relaxation and just reading on the porch or in the living room for us is wonderful..(Boston also has the hot/humid 90 degree stuff...just not everyday). We are returning June 7-10, 2009.

We've been twice - once this year in the third week of June and last year second week of August. Last August we had temps of over 100 everyday, but not a single drop of rain. This past June temps were much nicer in the high 80's and low 90's. We had several T-storms throughout the week. However they seemed to nicely occur during the late evening to night hours after we were all done with our activities!! Actually it was quite a show of T-storm patterns coming over Broad Creek while we watched the front move in on our balcony. We've decided June is our time and just booked today for the week of June 21st!

Thanks for all the great replies! I am going to book for August 09 and follow up with a 4 day cruise:jumping1:
