We're planning our first trip to Hilton Head this April. Any thoughts??? Any info at all is great? Can the kids swim in the pool or ocean at this time of year? What's there to do?

There is a very big pro/am golf tournament held every April. Be sure to avoid that week as the island is packed with golfers and tourists.

The big golf tournament is scheduled for the week of 4/11-4/17. I checked because we're also hoping to go in April, for Easter. I'm not sure about the weather-I'd be interested in that, too. However, we've been in late March and weather was in the low 70s. To us, it was a little cool for the pool, but we're Southerners. I think for people from the North, it would be OK. I remember when we loved in New England and went to WDW in November-the life guards would be shivering in jackets and long pants while we were running around the pool. So I figure by late April, it should be OK to swim. Maybe we'll see you by the pool!

The Hilton Head Heritage of Golf PGA Tournament does not have a sponsor for 2011 and public funds may or may not keep it on the calendar. I would not let this tourney deter your plans. April 2010 was dry and warm but who knows what the weather will be next year. I enjoy April as many flowers are in bloom and the bugs are not out in full force. Ocean temps are cool but the DVC does heat the pool.

I also thought the Tournament was up in the air for 2011 because they'd lost their sponsor, so I was very surprised to see the dates on the Sea Pines website (at least I think that's where I saw it). Now we're just sitting with baited breath until 7 months before Easter 2011, 4/24.

We're hoping we can book at 7 months for a 2bd the week prior to Easter next year (4/16-23). My kids' spring break is this week - seems late to me. Are the weeks around Easter difficult to get at 7 months?

The weather will be a gamble. This year it was too cold to swim or go in the ocean. Other times it can be 80 degrees in April.

I have DS's family at Vero, but they too are hoping for HHI around 4/16 for 5 nights. They were hoping for a shorter drive from MA. I believe that Holy Week is the spring break for the Boston area.

The 2011 Heritage Golf dates are on their website (www.heritageclassicfoundation.com) and it is listed as the 43rd annual Verizon Heritage. I thought they had lost their sponsor too. :confused3

We've been at the end of March/beginning of April twice. In 2008 it was on the chilly side but my kids still swam in the pools. In 2010 it was sunny and 80s every day! I think your chances for better weather improve as the month progresses. Both of these trips were around Easter and we were able to book a 2br at 7mos out calling right away.

Wow - Easter looks really late next year April 24?? is that right. If so Boston will be on vacation the week before.

On a side note, if I remember from other threads, I think you may be the one that just did a huge get together at WDW? If so, I now see DS family going to Vero! If you are one and the same, you sure know how to keep people happy!!:yay: Quite generous...very cool.
