If so, how does getting there work? We were surprised to learn that our 2011 trip coincides with it, so DH is interested in going (I think he'd have to buy a "grounds pass") I thought I vaguely remembered that you have to park further out and then take a trolley or some transportation to the site. Is this right? Is there a charge for this? How crowded is it?
And speaking of charges, the ticket charge that I found was $60 for Saturday's round. Does anyone know where there might be a cheaper rate?

We went to the pro-am this past year The Masters was the weekend before so a lot of the pros were not there. Buses transport you (no charge) to the course. Wait till you see the yachts at the marina....unbelievable. I don't know anything about discounted tickets, I think we bought them on-site.

I'm so glad you mentioned yachts. Were there more than usual in Shelter Cove or primarily in Harbourtown? I told DH this morning that I'm really looking forward to seeing what's in Shelter Cove.

The huge ones were at Harbortowne, my DH googled the name of one of the yachts and discovered that it was owned by an attorney who received a billion dollars for the tobacco settlement. shelter Cove yachts were outstanding until we went to Harbor town. DH and I went to dinner at Michael Anthony's, excellent food, wonderful atmosphere, many locals, we loved it. I recommend geting a reservation.

That's the guy who also built his own private golf club, called Bulls Bay, in Charleston. The funny part: the membership rules allow for wearing blue jeans and for people to SMOKE there! :rotfl2:

OMG, that's hysterical. But I guess when you spend the money to build it, you can have your own rules, as wierd as they are. How difficult is it to get to Harbourtown to see the yachts during the festival? Do you take the trolley and it makes several stops. Or how about the Monday after the tournament ends, the next day? Then can you drive all the way to Harbourtown yourself? Do people clear out as soon as it's over, especially since it's Easter, or does the holiday not effect people leaving? Guy was kind of hoping to get some golfing of his own done, maybe at Heron Point, on Monday or Tuesday, then we could go see whatever yachts are still there.

HT totally clears out by Monday, you'll have no problem driving there and parking. Even the people who come for Easter tend to pack up and head home by Monday. During the tournament you have to park and take the trolley (or bus) but it's pretty much a straight shot. They run a lot of extra busses and streamline the traffic pattern for them so it all runs efficiently.

Not sure what day you are arriving but once the tournament week starts you won't be allowed to park at HT during the day without a special pass; however, once 5 pm rolls around you can get in (but parking is still a mess). Saturday night is the big party night there during the tournament. They'll also incorporate Easter things on Sunday (ie. Easter sunrise service on the 18th green; egg hunt at the playground, usually on Sat.).

Heron Pt. (used to be Sea Marsh) is a course my dh enjoys playing!

Thanks for all the info. We've gone from "Oh, No! Maybe we ought to cancel our trip-it'll be packed!" to looking forward to it. We arrive on Good Friday and we leave on the Wednesday after the tournament. And DH's played Heron Point once and it was one of his favorite courses.

Guess what! I just found out that DH thinks he knows the man who built that course in Charleston. We'll find out for sure.

We went this year and had a great time. I really enjoyed following the golfers around. On Saturday and Sunday it is a big party around Harbour Town. My advice is if you are going to the tournament get there early. The parking and buses are free, you just show your grounds pass to get into Sea Pines.

Joe Rice?
Just found out we got an invite to the boat last year (family member belongs to Bulls Bay) but we weren't there.
