Hilton Head for two days...

Okay, we finally are going to visit the HH Resort. We are using the cash rate that we received with our Disney Visa.
We will only be in HH for two days, as this is just a test run for HH. We will be arriving at SAV airport at about 10:30am on April 30th, then driving to HH. Again, we only have two nights there so time is tight.

My question is, what do you consider the highlights of your HH visits? We are traveling with the in-laws, and I suggested "A Private Affair". That got a luke warm response from the MIL, so we tossed it. (Now that I read this, I sure hope my MIL didn't take that the wrong way! )

Also, what are your favorite views and sections of the resort?

We fellow Nutmegers love HH, and will be there for our fourth annual HH trip in a week. Our request has always been for a marsh view, and we have always gotten that. A Private Affair has always been on our "must do" list, and we have done it the past three times. It has always been one of my favorite nights of the year each year. Just got an email from Chef Gordon, and he canceled our one that we had scheduled for this trip. We are so bummed. He said they are no longer doing APA. He will be doing some food events and wine tastings, so if that is offered while you are there I would highly recommend that. The other thing we really enjoyed was the dolphin tour. You will love it there.

I spent about 36 hours on the island over my Spring Break and came home and told my mom and sister that our Xmas trip will(with any luck at the 7 month window) be extended from 7 nights at SSR followed 6 nights at HHI. Was hugely impressed with how the theming integrated with the natural setting and think it will be great to be there for relaxing family time after the World and before the high stress Step 1 boards prep semester for me and tax season for mom. For just a short trip, I would recommend a naturalist activity, hanging out at the beach, and maybe a dinner/shopping trip to HarborTown. If you've read any murder mysteries set done South like I have(Nevada Barr, Margaret Maron), HHI is what I envision the South to be with the Spanish Moss, live oaks, the marsh, palms, etc. Have fun and enjoy HHI for its relaxing atmosphere.

Wow! No more Private Affair? Does anyone know whether this is a permanent change or perhaps (I hope) just temporary as they need others to fill in for Christopher's position, perhaps, and offer other activities? DH and I were fortunate enough to do A Private Affair recently and were already deciding what to have next time. Please tell me there'll be a next time!

Simba's Mom -- I think you were lucky enough to get one of the last APA. The sense I got from Gordon's email is that they are not going to do them anymore. Gordon said his responsibilities have changed, and he may occasionaly do the wine tastings and other food events. I am glad you got those crabcakes!

We'll be down there with you at HH- this will be our third annual trip to HH- some of our favorites are the wine tasting or food demo by Chef Gordon at the Beach House- since they are no longer offering A Private Affair- this is the next best thing, imho- we did it last year and loved it!! The beach is great- a must do- i'm sorry but everything there is just fabulous and you will want to come back!!! See you there!!

Our highlight from our recent trip was the Dolphin cruise. In fact, I think it is the highlight of all 3 trips we've taken to HH! You might also enjoy an afternoon at Harbour Town or South Beach Marina. Both places are nice for a leisurely afternoon. Enjoy your trip!

Highlights of my Hilton Head visits - a walk on the beach at sunrise - sitting on my porch watching the birds fly over the marsh - having a welcome home cookie and cider or lemonade at checkin (must arrive around 3ish!)- strolling on the pier - doing the chickaboom (or whatever it is!) at campfire and then toasting a marshmallow or two and making and eating smores (not just fun for the kids!) - listening to B'Lou Crabbe (that would be short for Bartholomew Louis) spin tall tales - listening to B'Lou teach us about the folklore and history of the lowcountry and Gullah people - listening to B'Lou play banjo and guitar and sing - catching a glimpse of a marsh bunny while walking on the boardwalk next to buildings 14 and 15 -sitting on my porch while the rain pours down (just one day and night of our seven) - talking to the castmembers - HH has some of the best! - walking the beach or the marsh or gazing at the stars with the Naturalist - I miss both Brian and Christopher - I hope we get a replacement soon - watching the families ride their bicycles together - wandering along the pier looking at all the gorgeous boats (yachts, I guess) - picking up a copy of the real estate magazine and gazing at a picture of the almost 7 million dollar beach property and realizing that it is the one I just walked past on Burkes Beach a few hours earlier - browsing in the Mercantile to see if there is anything new - a chicken ceasar sandwich at Signals - yummy! Coffee in my mug from the window at Tide Me Over and then sitting gazing at the marsh from the deck at community hall - wine tastings and appetizer creations with Gordon - fireworks in summer, shrimp boils on Tuesdays, just to name a few.

Favorite locations for a villa - hmmm....only bad room for me is a smokey room. I've loved staying in 23 around the pool, in 28 looking over at the yachts, in 17 for a tree view- love the birds! - in 31 for a spectacular marsh view, in 18 for a great marsh view, in Live Oak Lodge in many of the studios for marsh and live oak views - every building is special in some way.

Special places we've dined (just last week) - top favorite is Michael Anthony's on New Orleans Rd. We've eaten here 3 times now and it's all been excellent. Sunset Grille for Sunday Brunch - the chilled carrot and lump crab bisque was outstanding. Studio on Pope - pretty good - great waiter! Redfish - we dropped by for a bottle of wine - they have an amazing retail selection - and we were invited to attend a wine pairing dinner with a featured California winery with the winemaker in attendance. The dinner was excellent - the wines appropriate to the courses, and we were seated with a great couple. We've also eaten in the regular restaurant and it was good. Charlie's L'Etoile Vert - has slipped - don't bother. Guiseppe's at Shelter Cove - no gourmet here, but you won't leave hungry. Signe's Bakery and Cafe on Archer or Arrow? Rd - I had the tomato and basil frittata - very good! Drink good coffee before you go.

Other activities - driving through Leamington looking for the lighthouse - dolphin cruises - many options including Disney's - golfing, golfing and mini golfing - shopping - people watching - visiting Harbourtown and Seapines and Port Royal and just lollygagging around and relaxing....ummmm....I'm ready to go back .....anyone got a spare room?
