I am looking to plan a five or six night stay this fall at DVC. I would like to go in November, but are the pools still open? What is the weather like that time of year? We could always go in October, although I'd prefer to go a little later....Thanks for any input you might have.

the "82" degree pool was pretty chilly this past week in May.
The 60 degree ocean was even colder.

Yes, they are. We went to HH for Thanksgiving in 2005 (and we're booked there again for Thanksgiving this year), and my kids went in the "Big Dipper" pool. As a matter of fact, there were quite a few folks in the pool. We only went over to the beach house one time, and nobody was in the pool there, but it was open. Walking on the beach was pleasant, but required a light jacket or windbreaker. Of course, anything more than a brief dip of the toes into the surf was pretty much out of the question. :cold:

While it was a lot different than a totally water-sports-centric summer beach trip, we found it made for a very relaxing, peaceful vacation. We had fun exploring the resort, playing ping-pong at the Community Hall, playing pool at Big Murggie's Den, and just relaxing around the villa. We're looking forward to our return in six months.

Hilton Head Island can be pretty cold in November. Avg low = 47. Avg high = 68. I think getting out of the pool will be the hard part. :)

Thanks for the replys. I didn't realize it was that chilly there that time of year. I'm glad I asked.

Maybe we'll consider Vero instead.... Sounds like some of your trips have been very nice though!

Here's the picture we took of the pool In November, 2006. It was 39 degrees when this picture was taken at 11:00 am. That's steam rising from the pool. It was incredibly cold! Would we recommend avoiding November. Well, let's say-see ya there, SamR. We loved going to HHI in November, we just hope for better weather this year.

Cool picture (pun intended), Simba's Mom! That steam makes the Big Dipper pool look like one big hot tub!

It wasn't quite as cold at Thanksgiving in 2005. Here's a shot of one of my kids making a trip (one of many) down the slide:

Of course, the following shot from the beach shows that it wasn't exactly a summer day, either:

Warm, cool, or cold, I can't wait to be back! :beach:

We have been there for the last 2 years during Thanksgiving week. the weather both times ran from cold to absolutely beautiful. In fact in 05 the kids were in the ocean Thanksgiving day. Both pools are heated and the kids were in them no matter the weather even during the Noreaster that hit last year! We love riding our bikes on the trails and beach, mini-golf, the campfires at night, Kayaking the marsh, and dolphin watching.

All in all it is hit and miss with weather but we've always had a great time. In fact my wifes whole family (25 of us) joinded us last year and we all have booked again this November during Thanksgiving week.
