We are going to HHI in June 4 adults and would like some help on finding some great places for seafood. Can anyone give me some suggestions? I'm looking outside the usual chains. :sunny:

When we were there last August we ate at The Homeport and Steamers. The Homeport can be kinda hard to find, but it had some good bar specials when were there. Steamers is in the Coligny Plaza. We enjoyed both. There are all kinds of restaurant guides around the area...plenty of places to choose from!

Some places we love for seafood are Hudson's on the Docks, Captain's Seafood, Salty Dog, and Cafe Europa. I've also heard that the Sea Shack is excellent food, although very casual. And for real formal dining, there's Old Fort Pub.

Sea Shack, Old Oyster Factory and Kurama Japanese restaurants. Also some very good early birds at Hugo's at Wexford.

Many have suggested several that I would also suggest. I'll second the Old Oyster Factory but add the Boathouse II for casual seafood as well as Sunset Grill for more of an experience. I've eaten at steamers twice and neither time was it very good. I'd also add the crazy crab but only the one as you go onto the island, not the one in Sea Pines.

We really liked San Miguels right there at Shelter Cove, last time we were at HH. Next trip I want to try Sea Shack. I've heard so much about this place. We also like Crazy Crab.

I'll put in a third vote for Old Oyster Factory, especially if you can get a window seat!

Regards

We ate at Redfish Grill - at least I think that is the name of the restaurant. It is close to Sticky Fingers, I think. (Can you tell I'm having a Senior Moment!!) They had the best shrimp and grits dish. And a very nice grown up atmosphere. Don't remember the cost. They were listed in one of the restaurant guides that you get when you check in at HH.

Have a great trip.

Sunset Grill is one of our favorites.

I had a nice lunch at the Salty Dog and a wonderful dinner at Red Fish.

Two words! Sea Shack! Not much for atmosphere but the food is great!

Ditto, our best meal of the trip. Loved their fish chowder. It's a paperplate/order at the counter type of place but you can watch them dredge your seafood before they fry it. Prices were very reasonable too, you aren't paying for the view that's for sure!

We'll second, third or whatever Old Oyster Factory and Crazy Crab coming onto the island. We also really love Scott's Fish Market, which is right across the bridge from the resort in Shelter Cove Harbor. It is favored by many locals and has live music outdoors that time of year if the weather is good.

We had an excellent meal at the Crazy Crab in Harbourtown (I know that many prefer the other location, but our meal was quite good), and the food at Sea Shack is also great (and inexpensive for what you get)

If you want something a little more private, you could call the resort and see if Chef Gorden has availability for a private dinner at the beachhouse during hour trip...

Our favorites were Sea Shack and Bonefish. Bonefish is very close to the resort, just head out to the main road (?) and go right. Down about a mile in a strip mall on the right.

Is he still there, I thought I heard he wasn't doing this any more.

Chef Gordon's "A Private Affair" is sadly a thing of the past for almost 2 years now. It ended right before our fourth annual one. It was wonderful.
