There are fantastic rates for December before Christmas.

Will there be family activities available at the Disney Resort - campfires, games, nature walks, boat rides?

We know it will probably be too cold for the beach.

TIA for help,

Yes, the resort activities will be in full swing - weather permitting. The ocean will be too cool for swimming but if it is a nice day a walk along the beach can be enjoyable.

Have a great stay! The island is a lot of fun when the crowds are small. :)

Shhh, Doc! Don't let out what we consider the best kept secret-HHI with virtually no crowds. If I remember right, the very low rates are only for the first half of December, and several times our Thanksgiving stays have gone into that week, when the # of people drops off noticeably. Yes, the resort activities are still offered (since we don't go in the summer I can't compare, but it seems like a pretty full slate of offerings). However, don't be surprised if, due to the low #s, you're the only one(S) showing up for an activity. And what's nice is that the resort still offers the activity, even for just one. I've gotten a private tour of Pinckney, a private bird watching walk, a private HHI tour, etc. They still offer the movies at Shadow's Point, even though lots of times it's too chilly to enjoy them. And I remember one boat tour where going out was OK, but coming back from the ocean was FREEZING! Here are some pictures to get you looking forward to the resort around Christmas-

Thanks, Simba's Mom - I saw your cute photos in another post when I was researching this.

Wow! So all these little tours are done by the resort?! Sounds very nice!

Yes. The activities are very nice.

If you are a nature lover or a bird watcher, Hilton Head is a lovely place to go that time of year.

And it is not necessarily going to be cold. You could get a day or days with 70ties and 80ties, which are lovely for just sitting outside and enjoying the sun if you are coming from somewhere that is already a frozen place,

The weather can be down right cold and definitely will cool down in the evenings. But day time can be perfect for many activities.

The campfires can be really nice this time of year also.

The only thing I don't care for at the resort is rain.

One note about rain-the balconies (at least in the main lodge) are covered, so depending on the rain's direction, you can still sit outside in the rain. I know most are at WDW, but at least VWL wasn't. And yes, for bird watching the island's great. One of our main activities on the island is going bird watching. HHI Audubon Society's webpage has some recommended places.

All of this sounds so nice. It sounds like a nice, peaceful vacation place.

Love the idea of being the only people on a tour.

We just got back from hilton head after four nights there this past weekend. Peaceful is definitely the first that comes to mind describing this place in the off season! It was wonderful! I've already booked six nights for late august 2015 and am thinking of five nights for late march.
