We will be spending a week at the Hilton Head resort in May. We are planning a day trip to Charleston and one to Savannah while we're there. I found some things on the 'net to do in each of the cities, but I was wondering what recommendations other DVCers might have. I wouldn't want to miss something really exciting just because it didn't come up in a web search. Thanks in advance!!

Ride in Cinderella's carriage through the streets of Charleston with Olde Towne Carriage Company.

We did a walking tour of Charleston with "Charleston Strolls", www.charlestonstrolls.com. The morning we had a reservation I was ill. My wife called and they offered a refund. She told them that we would try for the next day, which we did. Great customer service!

We also really enjoyed the tour.

We've done Old Towne Trolley in Savannah. It's nice because you can get off an on all day. Also, the visitor's center has a small museum. It's interesting...I loved seeing Forest Gump's bench! If you've read Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, a must is the Bonaventure Cemetery. Even if you haven't it's really quite interesting. I've always wanted to do the tour in the hearse. Maybe next time. Walking on the river and going to the Savannah Candy Kitchen is great. Throw back to being a kid with penny candy.

That's all I can think of. We love Savannah.

Hi DopeyDave! We absolutely have fallen in love with Disney's Hilton Head resort! Be sure to meet "Shadow"---it was a highlight of our trip!

I highly recommend taking a Dolphin tour by boat. We chose "Commander Zodiac". Email or call Jana---she is terrific in planning your trip. They offer several types of tours. We did the Dolphin tour (2 hrs) & added an hour to the "disappearing island". Wow, what an amazing experience! While on the south end of the island, we explored the area, ate at the "Salty Dog" (fabulous!), saw the lighthouse @ Harbor Town, etc.

I have heard the Dolphin tour w/Scott is excellent too. We are going to take that one on our next visit. You book it thru the Disney cast @ the recreation window & it leaves from the marina adjacent to the resort.

Have a magical time in HHI! We are counting the days to return! The beach is perfect!

Toured an aircraft carrier in Charleston....very cool. Take the HH Island tour the resort offers, you will learn alot from it. Also love the small boat Dolphin tours. Don't miss out on anything Blu' Crabbe has scheduled.

We took a trip to Paris Island and toured the Marine Base. Very interesting, especially the security check.

We did a ghost tour in Savannah. I think it was Blue Orb, but I could be wrong. It was for adults, started at 10p, and we could bring "beverages" with. Really liked it along with Savannah in general. We love DHHI. Such a great resort.

On Thursdays Bluffton has a great farmers Market with interesting food and crafts. We love this town, and it is pretty close to HH. There are a number of good restaurants here.

Our main enjoyment in Savannah was walking through the squares in the historic district. They are beautiful and unique.

A tour of Mercer House is enjoyable if you've read "The Book" or seen "The Film" (how locals refer to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil). We also really enjoyed touring the Owens-Thomas House for a look at how that half lives.

Lunch at either Lady and Sons or Mrs. Wilkes is very enjoyable, but takes a lot of effort. We waited in line for almost 2 hours on our last visit to eat at Mrs. Wilkes. It's a testament to them, though, to say it was just about worth it!

One other thing about HHI- if you enjoy bicycling, be sure to rent a bike and go for several rides along the beach. The sand is hard-packed and makes for a wonderful experience. For me, that's the highlight of my trips there.

Enjoy!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Still haven't finalized our itinerary, but I'm looking at the Tea Plantation and Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka Distillary in Charleston! Also looking at a Walking Foody Tour and a Martini Tour in Savannah! Maybe we can fill with some of your ideas.

Thanks again!!

We'll be there in May as well...We're looking into day trips as well...Thanks Dave for asking this question!
