Do they have the type of bikes with the kid's bike attached? DD will be 6 when we visit next year and I not sure how sure on a bike without training wheels she will be. How much does it cost to rent a bike? Also, are they necessary to rent to get to the beach or can you walk to the beach from the resort? Thank you!

Bikes and Recreational Rentals
Explore the island's hundreds of miles of bike paths or cycle the 1.25-mile path that leads to the Beach House.

At the recreation office, you can rent fishing equipment and crab nets. Bicycle rentals include adult, child and adult-child tandem bicycles with fat tires suitable for the beach. Complimentary bike helmets, locks, baskets and child carriers are available to borrow.
I don't remember the prices but there is a DVC discount offered.

We were there three years ago and rented bikes for a day. I can't remember how much it cost per day to rent them. We are going again in June and plan to rent for the entire week this time. We really enjoyed biking to the beach house. I would definitely recommend driving or biking to the beach house since it is quite a trek there and back with a little one. You're going to really enjoy it.

By the way, something else that we also enjoyed while there at the Disney resort was kayaking. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable of the area and we had dolphins come very near our kayaks. Such a fun experience!

Do you need to reserve bikes before you arrive?

As mentioned - they don't take reservations which has only been a problem for us 1 or 2 times in 20 years. Only during the busiest week in July did we have trouble -- and then we just rented from another vendor on the island and save some $$. It is usually the first thing we do after checking in though when we go in July. Off season -- shouldn't ever have to worry about it.

Beware... we brought bikes with us and were really disappointed with what the island touts as "more than a hundred miles of bike trails". The ones we were on were nothing more than sidewalks right beside the road... where bikes *don't* actually have the right of way.

We headed south on the road from Disney. There are stop-signs for the bike paths at every business' driveway. Apparently this is due to the number of bike/car accidents that occur on the island. There were some places where you could bike for a fairly long way between driveways, but many times, there were driveways every couple hundred feet or so. Talk about frustrating. And you have to look hard over your left shoulder to see if any cars are coming (who don't have a stop sign and therefore have the right of way). Most of the drivers were very nice and stopped to waive us on, but you couldn't count on that... plenty didn't.

It's made worse by the island ordinance that limits signage in front of all businesses to a uniform, tiny, green-on-tan sign that is so small, you can't see it 'til you're right on top of it. I found myself several times quickly taking a sharp right into the parking lot of the business I was looking for as I couldn't see it when approaching (due to that ordinance) until I was right there. That sharp, immediate right with no time for directionals included crossing the bike paths on the right side of the road. No wonder there are so many car/bike accidents on Hilton Head.
