Hilton Head Bicycle Rental

'We are heading to HH this summer and are planning on renting bicycles. My big question is if I should go through Disney or if I should use an outside company? I would think that Disney would be more expensive, but more convenient. I could be wrong here though. We'd need 4 adult bikes (our boys are in high school), but would consider renting tandem bikes to mix it up a bit.

Do we need to make reservations? Disney or offsite supplier? Does Disney have tandem bikes for adults? Any experiences/recommendations as to renting from a 3rd party?

We were at HHI a in 2012 with our 3 sons ages at the time 18, 14 and 12. We were there for 4 nights. We just rent bikes by the day from Disney when we felt like using them. The two youngers guys got them for 3 days, my older son just two days and myself for one day. I do not remember the bike rental at Disney being expensive at all. They just rode around the resort and one day we took ride outside the resort, but not far. There were always plenty of bikes at the resort. We did not ride to the beach. It seemed a little far for the middle of August, it was hot.

I remember seeing a big bicycle rental shop on the way to the beach in Palmento Dunes, but that complex is huge, so they need it. The resort is very expensive. I am sure if you search the boards you will find Disney prices.

Any idea if Disney has tandem bikes?

We're rented from BikeDoctor and Pedals. Much cheaper than Disney, they deliver and pick up and the one time we had a problem BikeDoctor fixed it ASAP. BikeDoctor has tandems. I don't know if Disney does, but I can't remember seeing them.

Are there bike racks at the beach house to lock the bikes up? I am hoping someone knows the cost of renting too. We are headed to HH in June!

Are the tandem bikes adult- child? We really want to ride bikes but I have a 4yo who can't ride a bike yet and even if we teach him he may not be able to keep up with the rest of us.

We rented bikes through the resort last year. It was $30/week. They gave us bike locks - we got 2 locks for 4 bikes. There are bike racks at the beach house.

They definitely have adult-child tandem - just rented last week. There is a DVC discount and it is 30 length of stay (pre-discount).
