Hi all,

I have been a DVC member for several years but have never been to DVC at Hilton Head. Is it correct that the resort is NOT on beachfront property? If so, how far away is the beach and how do you get there? Also, is it a white sandy beach or rocky and how strong is the surf (if any).

Don't know when we'll get there since we love WDW, but would love any info available - I can't seem to find these details in our guidebook.

Thanks:cool:

The resort is located on a small island in Broad Creek (Longview Island). It is about a mile to the beach and you'll have to pass thru a security gate to reach the beachhouse. You can drive yourself, walk, or bike and there is also a shuttle from the resort. Each resort guest will get a gate pass at check in.

The beach is a beautiful wide, white sand beach with very gradual drop off, minimal surf and very little undertow. There are also lifeguards on duty all thru the summer season.

There is a themed pool at the resort and an additional pool at the beach house.

Enjoy!

The Beach house part of the resort is of course separate from the villas as described above, but it is a nice beach house with a snack bar, an indoor air conditioned lounge room with a TV, a nice pool and a kids water play area, and locker rooms for changing. I can't remember about beach rentals for things like chairs, etc. There's also a pool over at the main resort area.

I also have some questions related to this post:

How warm is the water? (We are used to 60-65 degrees...)
And how often -- and how close -- do the dolphins appear?
Finally, what is the beach like in March?

Thanks,

In the summer months, the ocean temps will be in the mid 80's. In March, it will be low-mid 60's. The beach is the same throughout the year. The sand is great!

We've had dolphin swim within about 20 feet of us while at the beach. Some days you will see several pods swim past and other days you may not see any. If you want to be certain to see the dolphin, plan to take a dolphin cruise.

We've seen dolphin many times feeding in the inlet behind the resort itself at high tide, so you're very likely to have an apportunity to enjoy watching them.

The past 2 years, chairs and umbrellas have been available for rent from the lifeguards out on the beach. If memory serves me right, I think it might have been $25 (for 2 chairs and an umbrella set up and tagged for you daily) for the first day and $100 for the week??? The guard also had skim boards and sand bikes (with 3 wheels to ride up and down the beach) for rent.

We were there last July for our 6th trip, but the first in the summer. I agree with the great description of the beach house and the food at the restaurant there is good. You can rent chairs, boards, and big wheel bikes to ride on the beach. We swam everyday at the beach and also at both pools which are wonderful. They also have a quiet ac room with TV and books, games at the beach house, along with a bar and game room.
As for dolphins, we looked right out onto the entrance to the marina at Shelter Cove. We saw 3-5 dolphins each morning while we ate breakfast, right from our balcony. I think we were in building 31, but it is the last one of the resort at the end of the small circle. We loved the view.
