Taking 4 friends to HH in March. I plan on impressing them with my knowledge of the island (3 trips there - makes me an expert - right?). Anyway, I've read about Signe's Bakery and I think I've seen people post about another one on the island - is it Coligny? For you real experts out there, which one is a "have to" visit for us and what would you suggest we shouldn't miss? When I'm there with my family, breakfast consists of poptarts, doughnuts, and maybe pancakes & bacon in the villa and one trip to HH Diner or IHOP for breakfast, but I believe the girls will want something a little different ;)

There is a good bakery at Coligny Plaza (on the side closest to the beach)but I think for something really special you should try Signe's. Even tho I have been to HH a lot, I have never personally tried Signe's but it sounds heavenly. The fare at the Coligny bakery is very good but is not all that different from your basic grocery store bakery items. From what I hear, Signe's would offer something a bit more original and memorable. Let us know!

Please share your knowledge once you return. We are going to HH in September for the first time. We are planning a day trip to Savannah while there.

Signe's is a wonderful place for breakfast---I heard about it from year round locals long before Rachel Ray came along and ate there for her show (and that's confirmation about the place as well). They have additional things besides bakery items, such as frittatas (my personal favorite) and french toast. Definitely worth a visit! If you are in Sea Pines, check out Harbour Town Bakery--good croissants and pastries for breakfast (they tend to sell out so go early), wonderful sandwiches for lunch, the best coffee as well.

If you like bagels, there's a very good bagel shop almost directly across from Shelter Cove. Go right on the highway and look for the Longhorn Steak House in a small shopping mall across the highway. It's not more than a mile or so from Shelter Cove. Excellent bagels and flavored cream cheese. They also have pastries, but I've never tried them.

Thanks to all! I guess we'll give Signe's a try. I have a book about what to do around HH & Savannah, a travel guide and it mentioned Signe's. I meant to go in October and check the place out - but never found the time. Then one of my friends going with me in March called one night to tell me about the Rachel Ray show and going to some bakery. I figured it was the one mentioned in the book. I'll let you know if it makes my "must-do" list. Thanks for the help. We'll be there for four days, with a day trip to Savannah. Maybe we'll have time to try all of the places mentioned! (Guess we won't be putting on swim suits while we're there - too much eating going on!)

Ah, so many meal possibilities, so little time! Just one piece of info for your planning: Signe's is closed on Sundays.

Where is Signe's, and is it a regular walk-in bakery, dine-in restaurant, or both? I had trouble finding a bakery with good dinner bread/rolls. There's an Atlanta? bread company by Publix, but when I went in they were sold out of bread for the day??

Visited HH in September and going back in April. We didn't get a chance to visit Signe's bakery. However, we did go to Stackers twice. It is on the main drag (turn right at the light when leaving the resort), about 1/2 mile or so. The reason for the visit ..... Crème Brulée french toast!! My DH had it the first time, and he talked about it all the way to OKW, the the 10 days there, and then all the way back to HHI!! It was huge, rich, and yummy! I think the building used to be a Coco's/Baker's Square/Bob's Big Boy. So, think dinerish.
