DH and I are thinking of heading to HHI over Christmas, arriving Christmas Eve and staying for 4 or 5 nights. We have never been and just wondered what that time of year is like on the island. Pretty sure swimming is out. But we are avid cyclists and plan to bring our bikes to tour the island. And maybe a quick trip to Savannah and Charleston. Since the resort has no restaurant, will there be places on the island open to eat at that week? What is there to do on the island that time of year?

We've never been down there during Christmas vacation or December for that matter, but we were there in November. Temps were in the low 70's during the day and 50's at night. All of the restaurants on the other side of the marina were open and on most nights you could still sit outside. It may be a little too cool after Christmas, temps in the low 60's during the day, but it sure beats 30 degrees and sleet. I'm sure most of the restaurants, etc. on the island are still open and as you noted biking around the island is wonderful. Also, Shelter Cove Towne Centre, just North of the resort has some great restaurants / bars plus some nice stores to explore. Have fun !

We also haven't been there at Christmas, but at Thanksgiving and occasionally into the first week in December. However, I've heard from several others who've been there for Christmas, and I'm sure there'll be plenty of places to eat. And it is usually a great time of year for biking.

We've been at Christmas. Most restaurants on the island are open that week.
