Hilton Head Activity Reservations Needed?

We are traveling in July to Hilton Head DVC and wonder if anyone can give advice about whether it is advisable to make to try to make dinner reservations or any other activity reservations (ex. golf or kayak) before arrival. I have been there off season and have been told informally that these things can be done upon arrival, but I wondered if anybody has any thoughts on how difficult it can be to experience all the things a family might want to do - knowing that June through August is peak season. Thanks.

don't belive many restaurants take advance reservations, usually a wait list at most good spots, unless your an early bird.

Activities may be a different story....I just booked golf for June 23 and 25 so some activities you can do in advance

I've made reservations for EAT and CQ the week of July 10th. Enjoy

I don't know about anything else for sure, but DH always makes his golf reservations about a month in advance, even off-season. But then, his golf comes first at HHI. And as far as resort activity reservations, we were told that you can't reserve more than 24 hours ahead of time. I don't know if this rule is only for off-season, though.

Good to hear from a former Central MA resident, Simba's Mom. Thanks for replying. I was aware about reservations for activities at the Disney Resort not being available until you arrive. I also knew that there are no restaurants at Hilton head DVC. I was just trying to get a sense about dinner reservations at non-Disney property due to traveling with my grand daughter. I guess we'll be showing up very early anyway for dinner so hopefully it will not be too crowded at restaurants even if we don't have reservations.. From traveling to WDW I am in the habit of planning restaurant reservations months ahead and wondered what Hilton Dining would be like if we did not make dinner reservations.
Thanks for the tip on bike riding during the busy season. I have been to Hilton head during the springtime and got the impression that cars have the right of way not pedestrians or bicylists. I am retired form a local fire department so I am usually on "high alert" in terms of safety - especially concerning my children & grandchildren. Have a good day.

Umm, when you're on designated bike paths (which the person we spoke to was on) you shouldn't have to deal with meeting cars.

A number of restaurants do offer an early dining discount, so if you don't mind going to dinner around 5:30pm you should be fine without reservations. Many of the restaurants do accept reservatrions even for the early dining times, so if you know where you'd like to go, making a reservation won't hurt. You will get a restaurant list at arrival.

In the Palmetto Dunes area where the DVC resort is located, autos do have the right-of-way on roadways and cross-walks. Local security has even ticketed drivers who stop traffic to allow bikes/pedestrians to cross. The right-of-way does differ in some areas at HH, so it's wise to check the area where you will be traveling. (Long Cove is an area where bikes/pedestrians do have the right-of-way and that policy is well marked just as the opposite policy is well denoted in Palmetto Dunes.) Both bikes and autos would be well served to exercise caution when crossing roadways.

Of course, motorized vehicles are not allowed on bike paths - but even there caution needs to be exercised in resort areas where travellers may not be familiar with local laws.

Have a great trip! :)

I agree totally that people on bicycle and walking paths should never have to deal with automobiles and I was quite suprised when my wife & I saw signs in Palmetto Dunes giving cars the right of way. It particularly baffled me since we also saw some bicycle riders that were over 70 and some young children riding that I would automatically yield to if I were driving. I'm 60 and have always thought that individuals in vehicles should be especially careful to yield to people in less protected forms of transportation as a common courtesy - I guess I'll be getting some tickets for be courteous down there.

Agree as well and even though your OP was more for reservations, etc...I really appreciated then last few informational posts on biking regulations. The popularity of biking on HHI was probably 1 of the top 5 or so reasons that we actually purchased a DVC resale at HHI. We will have to keep our eyes open for not only vehicles but for signage as well.
