My aunt has reserved a bunch of rooms for our whole famliy here for christmas time (this is one of her home resorts). Just wondering what it is like from people who have stayed recently. How far is it from the different parks? how does it stack up to disney resorts? how close is a grocery store/ target type of store? what are ammenieties or other perks that you like about it?

Which one are you staying at? We own at HGVC Sea World but have stayed at both.
I like the Italian styling of the I'Drive one, and the fact there is a strip mall directly across the street with a Publix, Walgreens, Subway, etc. It was still fairly new when we stayed there (only 2 buildings were complete and they were working on the 3rd).
HGVC Sea World feels like "home" to us and we love it there. You can walk to both Sea World and Discovery Cove (it's a good walk but doable) and you are a hop and skip from I-4. There is a Publix a couple miles away (not walkable but a quick drive). Their poolside cafe is reasonable and the food is tasty. They have "dive in" moves and ice cream socials by the pool.
I'Drive location is just a little closer to Disney.

it is the international drive one i think... she said it isn't too far from downtown disney or sea world, but when i asked he rthe other day where it was she said it is on some street off of the international drive. I haven't stayed off property in a long time so I have a warped sense of direction and distance as in the bus will get me there and nothing is further than an hour and anything could take up to an hour.

It is WONDERFUL!!! The rooms are beautiful and quiet. The pool is lovely. I could go on and on! Right across the street is Publix and the outlet mall.

It takes literally 5 minutes to pass through the "Disney World" sign. It was less than 15 minutes to the MK, everything else was closer. It was fabulous and I'd stay there agin in a heartbeat. You literally go through 2 traffic lights, past the Nick hotel and you're there. The lights were quick and easy.

We were in a corner roon in building 6 overlooking the lake on the 6th floor.

yes, thank you for the info!! I don't know where we will be we have 2 3 bedroom suites and 3 studio suites. so i don't know if they will all be near each other or not.

I am happy to hear the grocery store is right there. I know my dh and I are flying, but others in our group will be driving so we will have acess usually to a car.

Are there any shuttles or transport at all with the hotel, or will we need to use mears or a taxi to get around.

how far is it for down town disney? can you walk it or are there no side walks?

This could actually describe either of the two current HGVCs - HGVC on International Drive (which others have described in this thread) or HGVC at SeaWorld International. The SeaWorld location is at the corner of Central Florida Parkway and Sea Harbor Drive, about a mile or so off International Drive and close by I-4. These resorts are two to three miles apart in the same general area of Orlando.

The closest WalMart (I think it's a super WalMart) is on Turkey Lake Road, very easy to get to from either of these HGVCs. There's also a Super WalMart on SR 535 (aka South Apopka Vineland Road) going toward Kissimmee. The nearest Target store is on SR 192 in Kissimmee (you'd go south down I-Drive to the interection with SR 535, turn left onto SR 535 until it ends at SR 192 and then turn left onto 192 and keep going a short distance, you'll see the Target store on the left).

The parks are probably 15 to 25 minutes away from these resort - a little longer or shorter depending upon the park and the route that you take. HGVCs, in general, are very nice resorts. You should enjoy either of these.

I am thinking it isn't the seaworld one but the one on intl drive. only because when i look both up only one says it has 3 bedroom suites.

still wondering if you can really walk to anything around there.. i know i am a bit odd, but with out a car i don't want to be taxing everywhere

I bet you'll enjoy your stay at that resort, it's quite nice and the three bedroom units there are very generously sized.

If you do decide to go to SeaWorld it's an easy walk across Central Florida Parkway and then a little way further straight down Sea Harbor Drive to get to an area that you can walk across the parking lot. That'll save you the parking fee, but I'd caution that the walk across the parking lot is a fairly long one to get to the park entrance, so if you're taking young children with you it may be too much for them.

Why not just rent a car? They're not expensive and often downright cheap prices. We're getting a midsize SUV for 5 nights for $77 incl. taxes. You'll spend much more than that taxiing around.

i was hoping not to, but considering our distance to things we might have to.
