Hiking Yosemite- boot recommendations?

Hi all. Any hiking bood recommendations that won't break the bank????? We're going to Yosemite next summer, and rumor has it that I should get them before winter to try to start breaking them in. I'm looking for ankle boots that have good grip.

Any suggestions??

Everyone is different, but when you are doing serious hiking you want to keep your feet warm and dry - so no cotton socks!

and very smart to break in the shoes - also get some moleskin to take with you for the inevitable blister!

I have no clue about boots, but I know several that wear Chacos sandals when they go hiking and they are very pleased with them.

DH summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro in Merrells. Not sure which style. My hiker ex-BF liked Merrells a lot too.
