hiking backpack as checked bag?

My boys have the bags in the link. They use them for everything from weekend trips to weeklong camping trips. We are flying for the first time since pre-kids this fall. Can these be used as checked bags (assuming they meet size/weight requirements) or will the straps be an issue with the conveyor belts and such?
Thanks!

I'd be concerned about them getting damaged on the conveyor belts going through the airports.
Consider putting them in clear heavy plastic bags and tapping them closed.
Our local airport gives these out for free if it's a rainy day for people with checked backpacks and dufflebags

Thanks for the tip!

No need for that. I have a backpack from ebags that is my carry on. At first I would tuck the straps in, but there was no need to. I've flown with it more than a dozen times and never an issue with the belt. The plastic thing seems like a wasted of time and resources.

ETA: I read the OP as carry on, not checked. Will leave the post just in case.

We see at least a dozen of these a day where I am. Absolutely no problem with checking it.

Do ensure that it's not overly stuffed in case there's something in the bag that needs to be examined further.

Ask for it to be put in a tub or tray, and do try to tuck the straps in, and remove the ones you can.

Would not at all recommend the plastic bag.

I work for TSA.
