Highway in the Sky, Artist Point, or Citricos?

My husband and I are having a date night in September and I have already booked Highway in the Sky. However, I just saw that AP holders now get 30% off at Artist Point and Citricos thru September. Now I am wondering if we should do HITS or choose one of the others. That's a pretty sweet discount, and we have never tried Citricos or Artist Point.

Is HITS really worth that much more with the monorail and the fireworks? I paid about $340 for that, and we could eat a fine meal at one of the others for well under $200 with the discount. For that savings, I could just buy him a MK ticket and we could see the fireworks from inside the park. Or save the money and watch the fireworks from the GF or the Poly beach.

We only have one night since our September trip is primarily a Universal vacation but we are heading over to WDW for a date night, so we can only choose one.

I'd make my own highway in sky evenening......grab cocktails at poly bar then boat to Artist point for dinner. Then head to California grill for chocolate martinis and bar seating to watch fireworks on your own!

I second doing your own HIIS. We do a monorail crawl for drinks and Ohana bread pudding. Citricos is amazing. For our honeymoon, we got the deluxe dining plan and hit up a ton of signature restaurants and that was one of the best!

My son and I did HIIS and while we enjoyed it and it was nice to say we did it, it's not something we would want to do again. For a special date night, I'd go to a bar maybe at GF then go to dinner at Citricos and watch the FWs from the beach at Poly. Frankly, we left in the middle of the FWs at the HIIS, it just wasn't the same from that far away for me and even though they piped in the music, it just felt like watching them from any of the resorts. Frankly the meal at Citricos and the wine and cheese at the end at the GF tea room were our favorite parts.

IMO HWIIS is just that, highway robbery. I'd check out artist point or citros or any of the amazing monorail options and do your own version ending the nit at either Cali grill, narcoossees, or the poly and enjoying the fireworks from there

Watch the time restrictions on the discount! B4 6:30 and after 8:30 puts a hole in your evening if you planned to make an evening of it.

Just my 2 cents...
We can drop the kids at 4:30 at Lilo's so I was planning on an early dinner. Starting before 6. I remembered that MK has MNSSHP that night, so the fireworks are not until 10. Also, even though I have an AP, I'd still have to buy a ticket for myself to get into MK. Still, we could probably have dinner and buy two party tickets for what we would pay for HITS.

DH and I had considered HIIS, but decided against it after reading a lot about it. Yes, it sounds fun! However, for a "date night" , we're looking for a little alone time to chat and just be with each other. (we have 4 kids who are pretty much adults, but are always around haha) We decided that socializing and sitting with others for dinner wasn't exactly what we were looking for.

It does seem like others have really enjoyed it. Such a tough choice! There are no bad choices, so you'll have an amazing time no matter what you choose.

I was thinking along the same lines. If we will have any amazing time no matter what we choose, then perhaps we should have an amazing time for $180 instead an amazing time for $340. ::yes::

I actually really like talking with other couples when my husband and I go out. It helps us to NOT talk about the children (which it seems is all we can talk about when we do have time to talk). We had a good time at Trader Sam's last year talking to other couples. We could still head to Trader Sam's after dinner at Artist Point or Citricos and still have plenty of time to watch the fireworks.

Artist Point. Very romantic, superb ambiance, excellent food, and topnotch service. Since you'll be dining early, you won't have any problem getting a window seat (be sure to request it when you show up), and it's generally quiet at AP, anyway, especially from 5:30-7 or so. After dinner, walk the grounds for some beautiful views, then head over to Poly or CR.
