Got back this morning, after a 10 day stay at ASR Music. must admit we are a little sad, but we definitely had the best time!!

Highs

First into Magic Kingdom - on our first day there we had a reservation at Crystal Palace (which was amazing, I've never tasted anything like the breakfast lasagne! It was delicious!) Anyway, we were about 4th in line but the first 3 families stalled for pictures, leaving us to be first in the kingdom! Great start to the holiday!!!

Weather - we had been looking at the weather just before we departed and were a little concerned. However, on the main, the weather was ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! Monday and Tuesday wasn't brilliant but by then we were so relaxed we couldn't care less! (In fact we had some pictures taken during the downpour on Monday which we are viewing now and are laughing about it!)

Characters - we go to DLP quite often where characters are few and far between and are always a scrum when they are there. We had photos with 42 different characters and, with the exception of one (which I will get to on lows), the interaction was brilliant!

Wishes - WOW! There is no other word I can use to describe how amazing this display is!

Photpass - £87 for 375 pictures over the ten days was just such value for money! Some of them are quite poor, but some are just SUPERB!! Would highly recommend it to anyone

Brown Derby - we booked a Fantasmic! dinner package here and had a fantastic meal! $55 each for a three course meal (where I had the best steak I've ever eaten) was amazing value for money!

Value for money - people had been saying how we would be spending a fortune whilst at Disney, but we really couldn't see that. Yes, snacks and alcohol was expensive, but beyond that we found it very reasonable! (In fact we came back with nearly $700 from a budget of $2,000 - and we brought back half the park!!)

Lows

American service - I've worked in retail since I left school and am always told how American service is heads and shoulders above ours. I didn't see that. Yes, their service was ok but GOD was it slow!!

Chef Mickey - $60 each for a poor choice of sub standard buffet food would usually be hard enough to take, but at least you get some decent character interaction right? Wrong! We found that as it was just the two of us the characters really didn't want to be at our table (with the exception of Donald, he was great!!). This would usually be bad enough, but then we witnessed the worst display from a character!

Pluto originally missed our table and was asked to come back by the handlers. When he did he had to wait, as Mickey had arrived at our table, so decided to lean against the wall with arms folded. As he came to us, I went say hello and he just breezed behind me and indicated to my wife to take the pic. She did and as he went around the table to her side, she started tidying the table (as she didn't want glasses and dishes in her pic) she picked up my empty beer bottle and was moving it to the other side of the table and, as I started taking a picture, Pluto went mental!! He stormed over to the handler, furiously indicating that we tried to take a picture of him with the bottle and stormed off! My wife was so upset and embarrassed by this accusation and wanted to leave. It was extremely poorly handled and left such a sour taste in an otherwise fantastic holiday!

So overall an amazing holiday, we will definitely be back, we just wish we had more space in our case to bring back more bits!

wow!! i'm so sorry about your chef mickey experience!!! that's terrible!!!

but otherwise, sounds like you had a truly magical time!!!

when you go next time, instead of chef mickey, try out Donald's Dining Safari at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom - for breakfast or lunch (dinner isn't with characters)..
my daughter and son in law were just there for lunch and said it was fabulous and the character interaction the best they've ever had!!

they're still at WDW .....i guess you must have missed the really frigid weather that hit this week....but they're having a great time despite the crazy cold weather!!!

Yeah, we did Tusker House as well! Half the price of Chef Mickey and 10 times better!

It was a real horrible experience and as a result, we actively ignored any Pluto meets as a result! Silly I know but we really didn't want to be anywhere near him! Lol

Great holiday, totally worth it! Kind of glad we left yesterday as it was getting really cold!

(don't tell anyone, but he's often a her ;) - but i won't say what i was thinking after writing that)..

anyway...pluto's one of my favorite characters so it makes me sad that whoever Pluto's special friend was at chef mickey wasn't doing a very good job of it...

it's interesting though, chef mickey has been getting consistently bad reviews recently......perhaps it needs a new manager to whip it into shape!!

Hey, I would happily take that job on! I must admit I was doing what I do in shops over here and looking at what I would improve! (10 years as a Store Manager does strange things to you! Lol)

Yeah, have to say I was gutted about Pluto, we've had some brilliant meets with him in Paris over the years, this was particularly sad, especially as we could have met him within about 10 minutes one day but decided against it!!

i wouldn't want that job...managing a restaurant seems a pretty thankless task!

and i doubt i'd be any good at it..

i'd be happy to try my hand at being Pluto's special friend though...i think i'd be really good at that!! Certainly better than your pluto was!!! :)

there's another really fun character meal - dinner at 1900 park fare...

in addition to cinderella and prince charming (no big deal as far as i'm concerned) you'll also meet her piece of work stepmothers and stepsisters, who are a hoot and half....so funny.....definitely a lot of hysterical interaction going on!!!

and the food isn't bad for a buffet...

wow im so sad about your experience at chef mickeys, not only for you but any children around who might have seen him act that way! ,did the handler come over and apologise?
im sorry but i would have informed a manager as its totally unexceptable,

your highes sound fab though and im pleased you had a great trip:thumbsup2

To be honest, I was so angry at what happened if I had spoken to someone I wouldn't have been able to have kept my cool! I am thinking of doing an email (where I can read it through before sending it) but am wondering if it would even be worth it!

To be honest the easiest way to get anything sorted with Disney is at the time and face to face.

Send an email but it will either take a while to find the right person or you'll get the generic call "thanks for your feedback and we will pass it on".

The issue is each area runs completely separate and it's the manager in charge that you need to speak to before anything can be done.

We had the worst server ever at Cali Grill but we just had a quick word to the manager on the way out. We didn't want anything but the server was either having an off night or shouldn't have been there. The server got a minimal tip too. If the manager knows he can decide if he wants to do something.

With character dining the restaurant pays the entertainment department to supply the characters. Therefore they will want to know so they can get it sorted! Although I am not sure CM actually will care as it's always fully booked and character interaction has been slowly declining :(

I am glad the rest of the trip was good though :goodvibes

I would definatly follow this up with an email, they are always looking for feedback, if you go onto the restaurent boards and ask where the best place to direct the email would be they would give the best info out!
other then that you can email disney guest services care of the restaurents department with CM in the heading,
when its something like this they are going to care, and will most likely call you back to make sure they have all the info, so make sure to add a number in.

Glad you had a good time but sorry to hear about Chef Mickey. We have been 3 times on the Dining Plan but would never pay OOP as so expensive. To be honest the only character meal I think is really good value is lunch at Crystal Palace. We were at Tusker House last year and it was so awful. The food was a mess and we only got to see 2 characters. Just gave up waiting. I actually wish I had complained but I didn't want to be thinking of negative things on holiday. Have only complained once to customer service and that was this year after the Villains night at Hollywood Studios and really glad I did as I got a full refund which I really wasn't expecting.

isn't that funny - we had the opposite experience!
(crystal palace was so bad for lunch that it's one of those places we won't eat at even if there are absolutely no ADRs anywhere else....)

the truth is, the last time we were at chef mickey's, we had a really nice experience...but that was 2 or 3 years ago...it was dinner...the character interaction was great, we saw all the characters and they spent a lot of time with us (the handlers kept coming over to make sure we'd seen everyone)..
and our server was very attentive as well...
and the food wasn't bad....it wasn't victoria and albert, but not bad...
but again, that was a few years ago.....
