Happy New Year everyone! It's hard to believe we’ve been back a week already and I’m just now getting around to reporting back on our Dec 14th-23rd trip to BLT! I will post pictures (or links to them) in another part.

This was a very memorable trip for us. All together there were 27 of us :cool2:, staying at BLT and BWV. Five families from our neighborhood and a friend of one of them flying in from Boston. And yes, we're still friends! :lmao:

Three families stayed at BLT. Using our points, one family had a one-bedroom and we shared a 2 bdrm lake view with the other. My DH and I had the master with DD on an air mattress, our boys the living room area and our friends stayed in the 2nd bedroom (or studio).

We arrived around 11:30 pm on the 14th and were assigned to room 7802! I had requested our ‘Lakeview’ room be in the North wing, upper floor, and odd numbered. Since there are only a handful of dedicated 2 bedrooms fitting that description, I knew right away we were also going to have a partial MK view! :cool1:

Despite being at the end of the hallway, it was a short walk from the elevator—a nice change from BWV or AKV! Definitely a plus!

The room was HUGE!!! Even though I had been through the model at the Doorway to Dreams store, I was surprised at just how large the living room was, being on the outer curve!!!

As others have mentioned, the furnishings were definitely showing some wear and tear. The textured carpeting was matted down through the walkway, near the kitchen table and had misc stains (red, blue, brown). Several deep scratch marks were on the tabletop, table legs and gouges in the nearby baseboard. The top of the seating bench had a wood back with a narrow ledge on top, facing the front door. Someone must have used it for a drink holder, as there was a nice ring left on the wood. :sad2: While I expected this, I didn’t have to hunt for flaws; these were very obvious.

Looking left from our balcony, we had a perfect view of the castle and SM. NICE!:yay: I will post pics later.

My sons’ bathroom had issues right off the bat. When the toilet was flushed, water spewed up in the sink and some nasty hairball-ish thing made an appearance! We called maintenance right away, which must have redirected to the front desk at that time of night. The CM gave us the choice of moving to a different room or waiting til morning for maintenance. Since we didn’t want to give up the room I basically requested, we opted to wait it out. Two men did come the next day to fix it…at least we thought. From that point on, the toilet seat wouldn’t stay up—the kids had to hold it, when using it! LOL Throughout the rest of the week, the sink periodically spit up water when the toilet flushed. :headache:

My biggest problem was with Mousekeeping. There was only one spare blanket in the closet and no pillows for the two sleepers in the living room. I'm aware that Mousekeeping will not provide EXTRA linens, but this room accommodates 9, so I expected appropriate bedding. Luckily, we brought a couple of fleece throws to use in the parks and we took pillows from the other beds for our boys to use. Not the end of the world. HOWEVER…the sleeper sofa had crumbs all in the sheets, letting us know they were NOT changed before us. :scared1: Also, in the second bedroom, one of the beds had make up on the sheets. It didn’t appear to be just stained, either. Gross!!! But again, because it was so late, we couldn’t call housekeeping to do anything about it. We were all so tired and had already had our garden grocer order delivered, which we over estimated (AGAIN). So, we decided to improvise. I’m aware that the bedspreads aren’t typically cleaned between room changes, which I try not think about...but SHEETS???? Unfortunately, a call to Mousekeeping the next day was futile. We don’t believe anyone came to change anything—even on our full cleaning day (we were there 8 nights, so we had a full clean). We were gone every day, all day. And...after the first night, the shock was lessened a bit.

As we planned the trip, we were worried we wouldn’t get into the Top of the World Lounge, but fortunately for us, that was never a problem. The CM told us it NEVER fills up. That’s great while you’re staying there, but I think this is a very UNDER USED amenity!!! We watched Holiday Wishes from there on several nights and really enjoyed not having to fight the crowds! Granted, to me there's nothing like being smack dab in front of the castle with those fireworks going off, but from the 16th floor, the view is spectacular!!! On two occasions, we brought up a couple drinks from our room. On the 2nd night we were politely told that wasn’t allowed. Oh well. I understand it, but I don’t have to like it. Naturally, we hoped to save a little $$ on alcohol and the food choices were something to be desired. $10 for crab nachos or a flatbread was not going to cut it for us! Our boys ended up going down to the Cafe for a burger while we stayed at the lounge.

While it was pretty chilly a couple of nights, we did manage to use the hot tub and pool on a couple days/nights. It felt great after six solid days of walking non-stop! The kids, my DH included thought the slide was fun and would go from the hot tub to the pool and back. I stayed in the hot tub  and watched!
There was a keyed gate to get in the pool area, as well as the restrooms. I know some others have complained about the number of times you need a key at this property, but this didn't bother me. I'd rather have it that way. With the proximity to MK and the Contemporary itself, I think it's warranted!

Speaking of proximity to MK, it couldn't be beat!!!:thumbsup2 It was faster and easier to walk there, than to take the Monorail. We found ourselves going there more, even if it was for a quick visit! Loved, loved, loved it!:cheer2:

Just curious....would you walk into any restaurant/lounge at home with your own drinks and expect it to be OK? :confused3

Since there were 27 all together. When you went up to the TOTWL did just those staying at BLT go up or the whole group?

Dizzneebabe- We have also stayed in 2-Bedroom dedicated Villas at Bay Lake Tower and experienced issues. If visiting during the summer, beware of room 8002. The air conditioning doesn't cool well and can only keep the room down to about 74 degrees at night. The dining room table is scratched horribly and the carpet in the living room is filthy. Our microwave oven also lost power and it took them two days to make the repair. Another room with issues was 8102. The living room sofa was stained and ripped, the glass wall covering beside the kitchen stove was cracked, and the dining room table top was scratched up. The overhead shower in the master bedroom drips cold water in all the rooms we have occupied. If it weren't for location, BLT would not be one of our DVC choices.

So sorry to hear that!!! Since MOST of the things I mentioned were cosmetic, they didn't affect our stay! Yesterday we booked BLT for our Nov 2011 trip and I'm tempted to ask for the same room--or at least general area.

It is very clearly stated that only members and their guests staying on points are allowed access. The CM checked our key cards and escorted us to the elevator. So, 14 of us went up to the lounge. The other 13 were staying at BWV.

Just curious....would you walk into any restaurant/lounge at home with your own drinks and expect it to be OK? :confused3

But since you don't have to go INTO the Top of the World Lounge to get to the roof to view the fireworks why does it matter if you carry up something to drink. I can understand if you are watching from INSIDE the lounge, but if you just go up to stand in the viewing area and watch what difference does it make?

Exactly! We were walking around the resort with a drink and the CM who escorted us to the elevator and then punched a code to let us up to the 16th floor, didn't bat an eye at us! It's no different than bringing water/drinks into the parks. Or those who actually bring in food!

Just put your adult beverage in a refillable soft drink mug an nobody will question you. We have had several "good times" in the Magic Kingdom even though they don't sell alcohol! ;)

Although we have had room issues at BLT on more than one occasion, we continue to stay there due to monorail access. We have two young children who ride in a double stroller and it is a major convenience to be able to leave them in the stroller when riding the monorail to EPCOT or when walking to the Magic Kingdom. I'll take the location! :thumbsup2

Hi! We're DVC owners taking a trip in Nov. 2011 too! We're also staying in a 2-BR. See you there!

We stayed in a 2-BR before and were originally given a room inside the "C", as a lake view. We switched to a room on the outside of the "C" and had a much better view and larger living room. We were staying on a cash reservation at the time and couldn't believe they would classify our first room as a "lake view" as 75% of our view was the inside of the "C" across the courtyard. I felt like I was living in the city, in a high rise....no thanks, not on vacation.

Please, please write Member Satisfaction, if BLT is the new direction for DVC, we are all in trouble.

Your housekeeping problems were just gross and you are much more considerate than I would be. The sink/toliet situation is just downright nasty.

For future reference calling will not accomplish much of anything at Disney, as all calls go to the call center and then they seem to lose them.

Make an appearance at the front desk and ask for the on duty manager.

After what happened recently to the bride and her party at BLT, they have got some issues they need to resolve soon.

I wrote an e-mail to Member Satisfaction a couple of years ago regarding some issues with broken equipment in the Sturdy Branches Fitness Center at the Wilderness Lodge. I received a follow up e-mail and telephone call thanking me for my message and was assured that steps were being taken to correct the issues. I returned to Wilderness Lodge one month later for another vacation and the same equipment was still broken in the fitness center and nothing had been addressed.

What happened to "the bride and her party"? I'm curious.

BTW, we stayed in June 2010 and noticed the master bath shower wasn't well cleaned. There was still soap foam on the wall from the last occupants and the grout had a lot of mildew, turning it black. I bought some bathroom spray cleaner, sprayed the grout myself and without even wiping, the mildew disappeared. So, it doesn't take much to clean the shower, yet they clearly invested very little effort in cleaning that area. Otherwise, things were clean and we had clean linens. There were maintenance issues. The sliding bathroom door (which is absolutely ridiculous, btw) was off the track and could not close properly. We called in the AM and by the time we returned in the afternoon, it was fixed. The master TV wouldn't turn on. I suspected it was unplugged but there was no way for us to get to the outlet w/o moving furniture so we called and it was also fixed quickly.

Housekeeping entered their room before checkout while they were at breakfast and threw away her wedding items.

Part 2: Crowds and Parks

We knew going into this trip that the crowds were going to be up, especially beginning on the 18th or 19th. It didn’t really concern us a whole lot, having survived the 4th of July twice. From what I read, only NYE can compete with that day in the MK!

The first four days (Dec 14, 15, 16, 17) were very manageable. We still had typical wait times for TSM and Soarin, but other than that the longest line we had was for Buzz, which said it was 15 and turned out to be 25.

During those four days we walked onto:

At MK: HM, SM, PofC, Splash, Teacups, Small World, Pooh, Peter Pan (less than 5 min during am EMH) Snow White(it was cold!)
Under 15 min for Jungle Cruise and BTMR.

Walk on at EP: Mission Space, Journey into Imagination, Nemo, Maelstrom, Three Caballeros, The Land and Spaceship Earth
Test Track had long waits as did Soarin, but we FP’d those.

Walk on at DHS: TOT, Muppets, Great Movie Ride, Backlot tour, Art of Animation
My boys went to DHS early one morning before we arrived and rode RNRC and TOT back and forth several times in the first couple of hours of opening.
We waited around 20 min late in the day for RNRC. Not bad. We saw Fantasmic on the 15th, heading into the theater about 25 min before show time. We were off to the side, but not a problem! It’s a good thing we saw it then, because the lines we saw later that week just to get in the theater would have sent me over the edge! LOL

Not much was walk on at AK because we went there on Sunday the 19th, when the crowds had arrived. In fact, we were surprised at just how busy it was, thinking most people would hit the other parks first, if they were just arriving on the weekend.
We arrived around 9am, although the park opened at 8am and after getting FP’s for Everest, headed to the Safari. A 25 min wait –the longest we’ve ever waited, but it was worth it! The first truck we were put on, stalled or something and they had to unload us and pull up another vehicle. While we were on the savannah, an ostrich decided to park itself in the road (in front of another group) and would NOT move. During our delay, a giraffe came up to our truck and tried to stick her head in at my DH and DD. DD screamed! LOL!
They eventually had to call in a “park ranger” to coax her to move and we were on our way. The giraffe stayed oddly curious, as she followed us for a bit on the path, while our truck moved slowly through area, allowing for traffic to clear from the back-up.
We were guided around for about 5 min, when the same ostrich parked herself back in the road in front of another truck! LOL This was a longer wait, with not much to see, however our guide joked about how five Adax came into view. He explained how there are only about 500 left in the wild and we were seeing 10% of the population, right there in front of us!

After they moved the ostrich AGAIN, we saw the cheetahs walking around and both lions—AWAKE! They seemed to pose for us, side by side. Very cool! All together, our safari lasted 50 minutes! You can now imagine the back up waiting in the line queue!!!! As we exited, we saw the stand by line had gone to 90 min!

On the 20th and 21st we hardly rode anything. The wait times were too long. For example Space Mountain was 120, TSM 150, RNRC 90…even Pirates clocked in at 60 min! Because we had friends at other parks, we were able to get accurate times and knew hopping wasn’t going to do us any good. Even FP didn’t work for us, due to ADR’s . So, after watching some of the Bears game in the TofTWL, we walked over to MK for the 11 pm MSEP and EMH. Since Wishes was at 10, the park was emptying quickly. We had a front row spot for MSEP! We thought this was a good sign! Unfortunately, wait times for Space and Buzz were still 40-50 min and we just don’t wait that long anymore! We even saw FP return times for 1:30-2:30am. That seemed funny! At 1:30am we called it a day!

One morning, early, my DH went ahead to DHS to get FP’s for TSM for us as I rounded up the rest of our family and waited for our friends, staying with us. He arrived 10 min before rope drop and could only explain it as the running of the bulls! He said people went nuts RUNNING, leaping, jumping and nearly trampling each other to get to TSM. There were CM’s yelling, directing traffic towards the FP machines and/or the standby line. Our FP return time? 11:55!!! Three hours later! By the he turned around from the FP machines, the ENTIRE street –wall to wall, all the way down to the Little Mermaid entrance was a line for FP’s! We arrived about 20 min later and by then, they were all gone! It’s nuts! I don’t get it…it’s cute, but it’s a video game! If my DH hadn’t gone ahead, we would’ve skipped it this time.

On the 21st we walked around WS and let the kids stop at all the kidcot stations. If anyone saw a group of people holding up Duffy Bears like a tour group, parading around…well that was us!!!

On our last day, we needed to get some rides in, so we headed over to MK just after opening. Gotta love BLT for that!!! It felt like everyone went home! We hit all the majors and some Fantasyland rides, plus had a few character greetings all by noon! Friends were at EP and said the lines were nowhere near what they had been in the two days prior.

We ended the trip at DHS, getting one last look at the Osborne Lights! Simply amazing!!!

My family and I agreed that these few days were much busier than the week of the 4th of July. Yes, the 4th itself is busy, but after that, it’s nothing compared to this!

UP NEXT: DINING

THanks for the information on TOTWL. I can't believe people were running for TSM FPs. :scared1: Thank goodness no one was hurt.

10 minutes after ropedrop and FP was for 3 hours later. Thats crazy. The last time we went, I was happy to have those special FPs from my guide to get on TSM. The FPs were gone and we were able to use our DVC FPs.

I will be going to WDW for Christmas. I now know what to expect. Thanks:thumbsup2

Thanks for taking the time and writing a trip report. Now I know why I was stuck on the Safari tour on the 19th!
