Hi all, we got back last night from our 6 night Disney trip.
Highs
Afternoon tea at The Langham in London As we caught the direct Eurostar we stayed in London last Saturday night and spent the day in London. We had afternoon tea at the Langham hotel and it was amazing! If you are interested in this I will be discussing it in our trip report, but suffice to say it was easily one of the nicest meals we have ever eaten.
Disneyland Hotel This was our third stay in the DLH and it was as nice as ever, as I mentioned in the thread I recently started we decided to pay a small supplement to stay in a Christmas room which was very nice, I will post some more pictures of this in the trip report (and there are some in this thread here)
Cast Members As usual the cast members were great, lots of them were excited to see our pins and upon seeing the guided tour pins one proceeded to tell us about hidden mickeys in his store.
Weather As a few other people have said the weather was quite nice for most of the week, although it was horrible rain on Friday which meant we just wanted to get on the Eurostar! But it was mostly cold but sunny
Christmas decorations It was a nice change to see the newer decorations and Main Street felt very christmassy.
Disabled pass Due to a recent deterioration Katy had to use a wheelchair for the trip and for the most part it was fairly easy to get on rides etc. This was in comparison to London where a simple journey from shopping to the Langham was a nightmare, uneven kerbs etc., we got taxis everywhere after that! As her condition is permanent she got a letter from her GP that explained her conditions and allowed her to get the green Disabled Priority pass, which worked out to have the same benefits as the old Special Access Pass in previous years (no-stairs access to rides, able to sit in the special viewing areas for parades/Dreams). One of Katy's highlights of the trip was when we were getting off Phantom Manor, and rather than going straight ahead we did a U-turn after the moving walkway to collect the wheelchair. We soon realised that everyone who got off after us was following - not sure what they expected to find!
Dreams We both loved this and watched it twice. The first time watching Katy had a bit of a limited view in the accessible area due to people standing in front of her (with people in wheelchairs), but on Wednesday night we got there very early and managed to get a spot directly in front of the castle, a perfect view! I got a video of the whole show (by balancing the camera on top of Katy's head) and it was just wonderful. The nights we didn't stay to watch Dreams we sat in our hotel room and listened to it/watched the fireworks.
Meeting Mickey We both liked the idea of this, and just had to pay him a visit after seeing the short clip on Disneyland Paris TV in the room! We were both a little worried that with Katy in the wheelchair we would miss out on a lot of the details like the wardrobe, since these are usually just in the queuing areas, but since it was at the end when you meet the mouse himself we had nothing to worry about. Mickey was funny as usual, this time he was pointing himself out on mine and Katy's pin lanyards - the photographer came over and was looking as well, and they had a good interaction (where Mickey pointed himself out on the lanyards, and seemed to ask the photographer where he was, then pushed the photographer away!).
Duffy On most of the days in the park we met Duffy on Main Street next to the Storybook Store, but noticed that he was abandoned when the Christmas parade started! He was dancing away to the Christmas music and the Toy Land song, and was getting the attention of the characters on the float by jumping, waving, "raising the roof" and doing the Gangnam Style dance. Katy thought this was hilarious and got a short video of him doing it again! I'll try to get her to post it later this evening.
Shareholders We saved a lot of money using the shareholders card, around 60 euros, and Salon Mickey was lovely. It was pretty much empty the days when we went in and it was very nice to get out of the rain yesterday!
Lows
Rain The rain yesterday was just terrible, we spent the whole day wishing we could go back to the hotel room!
Studios We only went in the Studios for about 2 hours and it just felt a bit empty.
That is about it, I had toothache for the first few days but it wasn't too bad!
