We returned from our Poly trip on Monday night a little heavier than we were before we left. Here are the food highlights from our trip.

Kona Cafe - Ummm, I was supposed to be sticking to my low carb diet, however after our first morning at WDW I happily decided that carbs are a necessary food group while at WDW. We were supposed to have Tonga Toast only our first morning and then eat the low carb breakfast bars we brought for the rest of the week. I think we ended up eating Tonga Toast 6 of our 8 mornings at WDW. It was excellent!! It was interesting, however to compare the preparation between chefs. Our first morning it was a bit greasy (but still excellent), the second it was almost wet because it was so greasy (still yummy), third day it was almost dry (still not complaining), and the rest of the time it was the prefect combination of dry yet greasy. It is very sweet on its own so if you haven't had it before you don't need the butter or the syrup they bring you (they will warn you to try it before you douse it with syrup).

Hollywood Brown Derby - had the Cobb Salad as usual. Fiance had the Pan Fired Grouper which he said was good. This is always a yummy meal. In general I don't care much for the food at MGM so this is the old stand-by.

Ohana - Ate here twice. This is now my fiance's favorite restaurant. Had a nice meal our second night and then ate here again after the hurricane passed through. My only complaint is that I always eat way to much and feel horribly full afterward - even when I promise myself I will "eat light this time." Life would still be good if I had nothing to live on but those wontons!!

San Angel Inn - Had a nice lunch here. I was skeptical of the food but ended up being pleasantly surprised. The margaritas are VERY strong and yummy. We split the chicken nachos and the the beef dish. Both were very good and you really can't beat the atmosphere. Can't remember our waitresses name but she was so cute and sweet!

Boma - another favorite. We had the bottle of African Reisling which was great. My favorite this time around was the Curried Cauliflower soup - I ate three bowls!! My fiance agreed that the Zebra Domes are worth the hype!! I'm partial to the banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce.

Le Cellier - Excellent food, terrible service. In fact the service was so bad it almost ruined our meal. Our waiter was very nice but very slow. It took him at least 10 minutes to come and get our drink order. By that time we already knew what we wanted so we ordered everything all at once. Probably another 20 minutes then passed before he brought our drinks. An additional 10 minutes to get our breadsticks. Another 10 before we got our appetizers and then at least 20 more minutes before we got our meal. My fiance wasn't willing to wait around another 20 minutes for the check so when he brought our meal my fiance just handed the waiter his credit card and said to just run it through and bring the paper for him to sign. We could tell everyone else in our area was annoyed as well. He would literally disappear for 20 minutes at a time. I would purposely watch for him and the ONLY time I ever saw him he would end up bringing something to every table he had - almost like he didn't want to have to make multiple trips so he preferred to make everyone wait until the last table's order was ready. But . . . onto the food!! Probably one of the best meals I've had at WDW. The pretzel bread is as good as everyone says it is. I would have ordered more but didn't want to wait until I was ready for retirement! The chedder cheese soup really is as yummy as everyone else reports. My fiance had the shrimp cocktail which has an adorable presentation; he said it was good. I had the beef tenderloin tips and my fiance had the filet mignon. Both were excellent. The cheese, mushroom bread pudding that my tenderloin was sitting on is one of the best side dishes I have ever tasted!! In spite of the service we will definately return!

The surprise of our trip was the Plaza Restaurant at MK. I made PSs here for lunch one day because I had never tried it and it seemed like a nice break from the heat. We ended up eating here three times!! I got the corned beef and my fiance got the cheese steak every time. We also had a banana split on one of our visits. This will become our regular lunch hang out at the MK from now on.

The Tangierine Cafe - another stand-by for me. My fiance also agreed that it is the best value and quality in a counter service restaurant in WDW. We both got Shawarma platters and couldn't finish them because there is so much food!

We also ate "dinner" twice at the bar right outside of Ohana. We split the eggrolls and the chicken wings. Both were very yummy but there must be lots of hidden sodium in thsoe dishes. Neither tasted very salty but both days after we ate there we woke up swollen and bloaty and then both made multiple pee trips all morning and afternoon long. I wish I had a scale with me for the before and after weight!

The only bummer of our trip is that we had PSs for Victoria and Alberts for the night the hurricane came into town. The restaurant was still serving but I decided that I wouldn't be able to enjoy my meal because I was afraid we would be stranded at the hotel because of the hurricane. I saw visions of myself scarfing down a $500 meal so I could get back to the Poly before the hurricane did. We ended up cancelling but they didn't charge us because they understood why we felt the need to cancel. We will try this on another trip when I can savor every bite of the most expensive meal I will ever consume!!

Great reviews... I agree with you on the Plaza. One of my favourite stops for lunch also.

Splendid reviews. We have alot of similar favs ~ Tonga Toast (definetly worth the carbs, Boma, Ohana, Cobb Salad. I am anxious to try Le Cellier. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the great reviews. I'm glad you liked Kona's so much, it's one of our favorites also. Tonga Toast is so good........

It's only available at the Kona Cafe at the Polynesian, but a couple of other places have 'imitations' on their menus.

I think that Rainforest Cafe has something similar, and maybe Boatwright's does too.

Kona's is the best (IMHO) though......
