Higher airfare?

Anyone having to pay much more than expected with airfare here lately?

I have not booked yet but am browsing around for some of our upcoming trips, the prices are outrageous right now.

Higher, yes. Unexpected, no.

The cost of fuel has gone up exponentially where I live so to me, not unexpected that airfares are increasing too.

I never go into booking airfare expecting anything so I'm neither relived nor angry. For summer airfare there up about $60 per person from about a month ago, I don't know if that good or bad.

I just looked up my flights from 2 years ago and I actually got it overall cheaper this year. The flight to Orlando was more expensive but the flight from Orlando was more. I booked at some point in February this year however 2 years ago I booked in May so that could have something to do with it.

I booked a trip with miles that was pretty well priced recently as well as a couple of cash tickets this week when the prices dipped. Both were in line with what I have paid in the past year.

They've been saying airfare is going to go up because of fuel prices, so higher prices aren't unexpected.

Jet fuel prices have gone up exponentially over the past month. This is one of the largest expenses airlines have, and the US airlines don't hedge their fuel costs. The price of jet fuel is only going to continue going up.

This doesn't mean there won't be some deals or fares lower than what someone previously paid, but the main direction is up (by a lot). I think some people are in for a shock when they see how expensive airfare is going to start getting over the next month.

I booked with miles and it was the same as it has been.

Other flights are very expensive, but they were also very expensive 2 months ago too.

Some budget carriers the price has actually went down a few dollars so I think Im just going to book it now.

In the past, my October trips have always been <$200 one way from my local airport (GRR) on SWA. I have flown with them for the past 8 years but this year, I switched to Delta. Now that I have to pay extra to pick a seat to accommodate my flight anxiety and pay for luggage (after they increased my AF on my credit card, I cancelled it), the fares are over $300 one-way! The flight we would have booked for this October would be $750 on SW. I was able to get a flight on Delta for $715...in FIRST CLASS! I won't say that SW has completely lost my business, but they are now just one of the airlines that I look at when I am comparing flights. I throw them in with Delta, AA, and United. I book one-way flights based on the price and schedule that works for me.

oof, sucked it up and booked the round trip flights for our October trip. Southwest... Bradley (Hartford, CT) to LAX, picking up my son in Midway on the layover. I think they are more than what I priced out earlier, but I figure they will only get higher in price as the Iran war drags on, and I can always rebook if the price drops and take the credit.

$3500 for all four

two adults with extra legroom seats ($2000), 1 adult with regular choose seating ($800)... 1 adult also with choose seating but only going from Midway Chicago (700)

The nonrefundable flight price for our med cruise this summer went up $500 per person from when I bought it last October. I was kicking around upgrading to first class. It went from $5500 to $9200 per person. I am floored. Looks like economy for the 4 of us!

You ain't seen nothing yet. I hate to be pessimistic, but the price of jet fuel is so high it's almost unprecedented in certain regions.

We knew we would be paying more for our flights this summer (we have a trip to WDW in July and a DCL/WDW trip again in August/Sep). We booked our flights for July a couple weeks ago when we figured prices would increase. And then we pulled the trigger and booked the flights for our cruise last weekend. We priced the flights with Alaska but had to call customer service to see why my mom's companion fire hadn't been returned to her and in the 30 minutes she was on the phone, the price for our airfare went up UP $200 for her--mine stayed the same since we are staying longer. Nuts!

Yes airfare will go up. If people don't travel due to the cost you may find airlines offering some deals this Summer. To early to tell on that, but I would expect to see a pull back in discretionary spending as the price of everything rises.

Sitting on a bucket load of SWA reward points. Couldn’t bring myself to use them or book one cash more than 1 leg so far for this year’s travel.

My market only has a couple of NS options to MCO. The prices I’ve been seeing for SWA, both out of the gate & up to even a month prior, are at least 30% more, if not closer to double for same dates last year. I partially blame it on their new structure of seat classes & credit expirations. They are coming out high and staying there. have seen only a few drops on dates I’m watching & those are on off peak time flights.

getting ready to pull trigger for Sept flights to MCO, again on Allegient. Just as I did for three other RT trips this year. Hard to ignore when the fares are a minimum of 1/3rd the price of SWA. Helps justify it that the mr qualifies for 2 free checked bags to equate to the free ones we’d get using the SWA branded CC. Annoying they have such limited flight dates & times, a trade off I suppose.

We did book two, last minute, short trips using Spirit @ $29 each way this year in Feb & March. Of course, since in bankruptcy, a bit of a gamble. They also switched each flight departure time around an average of 7 times while we were in the terminal. We got what we paid for, not a thing more there.

Airlines are going to be losing profits due to fuel prices. Not only that, but I think they'll be cancelling flights due to the energy crisis. I don't think I'd be booking with an airline already in bankruptcy.

In all seriousness, my understanding is that booking a carrier in bankruptcy negates trip insurance coverage.

this sort of trip is a short, bonus getaway done on a dime. (happens with APs burning a hole in one's pocket and lots of free time). We accept the potential risk.

i certainly don't recommend to anyone not prepared to scramble to make alternate travel arrangements, or take the 'loss' in this sort of scenario.
