We just got back from a stay at the BCV. The high speed Interenet access is installed and working. DH and I both had our laptops and needed to do some work on this trip. We took a chance that the high speed would be working and brought a LAN cable. When we found out it was, we decided to request a second cable from housekeeping so we could both work at the same time.

When we checked out, something told me to return the cable to the front desk, and I'm glad I did.

The front desk CM said they are tracking who they are giving these to, and will be billing people who don't return them. Housekeeping might not even know what they are until they get used to seeing them, so returning them in person to the front desk and making sure they note your account that it was returned is highly suggested.

It seems like common sense to return something as valuable as a LAN cable to the front desk and would certainly expect to be billed if I did not. I wouldn't expect housekeeping to know what it is and return it on my behalf.

What is the charge? is it hourly? Does anyone know if any of the other resorts have it? We'll be at the Poly and CR in May.

$10+ tax for a 24 hour period. You can run multiple computers off of it at the same time, and it's still that price. There's a handy little window that keeps track of how many hours you have left while you're logged on.

All of the resorts are scheduled to get it, don't know what the schedule is for that though.

Some resorts have Wi Fi in the lobby. I know BC and Coronado do.

I agree with Anne this is a great service. I travel with my own lan cord so I did not have to borrow one.

Found this by doing a search.

High-Speed Access with a Laptop

As of October 1, 2003, Disney's Coronado Springs Resort began offering high-speed Internet access in its guest rooms, at a charge of $4.95 per hour or $9.95 per 24 hour period. Within the next six months or so, all of Disney's convention hotels and Home-Away-From-Home/Disney Vacation Club resorts are scheduled to get high-speed Internet. The projected dates (subject to change) are:

Yacht & Beach Club - November 4, 2003
Contemporary Resort - December 2, 2003
Grand Floridian - December 2, 2003
Boardwalk Inn and Villas - December 30, 2003
Saratoga Springs Resort - January 30, 2004
Villas at Wilderness Lodge - February 27, 2004
Old Key West - April 2, 2004
Disney now offers Wi-Fi (high speed wireless Internet access) in the public areas of its convention hotels. You will need a Wi-Fi enabled laptop computer or PDA to access the Internet from designated areas of each resort. Smart City is the provider and bills the guest using a secure credit card transaction via an on-screen Internet connection. Requires a wireless interface card (WIC), available for purchase in the resort's business center. $4.99 per hour or $9.95 for a 24-hour period.

Locations for Disney's Wi-Fi access:

Grand Floridian - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Beach Pool
Contemporary - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Feature Pool
Yacht & Beach Club - Main Lobbies, Convention Center Hallway, Stormalong Bay Pool
Coronado Springs - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Feature Pool, Francisco's

I'm trying to figure out what they mean by 24-hour "contiguous" service.

Does that mean if you spend $9.95 you have a total of 24 hours throughout your stay or is that 1-24-hour period.

Say I want to log on for 1 1/2 to 2 hours per day??

How does it work??

Thanks,

Carol

Thanks everyone for the update. Now I'll be able to sit and lurk in the lobby of BW while getting the days tasks out of the way, early.
As usual, you guys are the best!! :)

Um, housekeeping brought the cable to begin with. If housekeeping brings you a hair dryer, do you return that to the front desk? They are worth about the same...

It's a 24 hour period. They mean you can log on and off as many times as you want in 24 hours and only be billed once for that period.
