Hey guys!
So I was just wondering if you guys have to read
during the summer for your English classes? At my
school you only have to read if you're in the Honors
classes (which I am:thumbsup2).For those of you
who don't know what honors classes are... it's basically
the typical class but with higher standards and what
not and from then you move AP courses(Advanced
Placement) and then to Jumpstart courses which count
as college credits...ANYWAYS... I was just wondering
what was on your list for this year?

Honors English I (Freshman)- Animal Farm
All Quiet on the Western Front

Honors English II-(Sophomore)- A Prayer for Owen Meany
An Autobiography of a Face
Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass

So, what's on your list?

I don't have to read anything this summer, but last summer I read the Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury. (He helped a lot with Epoct, including Spaceship Earth.) I really enjoyed it!:thumbsup2

I'm in an honors english class with freshmen, sophmores and juniors. It's really fun and interesting. I've even made a couple of friends, which for me is exceptional. But we have a huge book list.

Summer reading:
*Part of The Hero of a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell
*The first 9 books of the Illiad

School Reading:
*Henry V by Shakespeare
*Julius Caesar by Shakespeare
*Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
*Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes
*The Illiad and The Odyssey by Homer
*The Hero of a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell

Last year I had

Summer Reading:
*Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
* the beginning of The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw
*a book of our choice

School reading:
*The Great Gatsby bt F. Scott Fitzgerald
*The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
*The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
*King Lear by Shakespeare
*The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw
*Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
*The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

We read the Odyssey and parts of the Illiad Freshman year. Our high school is split up into english I,II,III,and IIII. Each numeral is a different grade you have to take all four to graduate.

Wow, that's quite a bit! I'm from England, and I only have two to read this Summer before I start college (which for us is basically the last couple of years of high school) and they're The Catcher in the Rye and Huck Finn, the latter of which I was reading anyway! :)

This summer for English, I have to read Animal Farm by George Orwell and The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck

I am an incoming freshman and I have to read How to Read Literature like a Professor and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

At my school (incoming Sophomore) I am in Pre-AP English. Basically, it is much harder then the regular english classes, but not worth any college credit. This year we have to read Julius Ceasar, How To Kill A MockingBird, A Tale of Two Cities, and as a class we are currently doing summer homework (through Google Docs) by reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.

I'm gonna be a senior, so I'll be in AP Lit next year. We have to read The Catcher in the Rye and 1984.

It's kinda weird; I've been in Honors English all throughout High School and this is the first summer assignment I've gotten. However, I'm not complaining :)

Everyone is reading such good books! We read one book a summer for each year. We only did reading if we were in honors or AP. I read Animal Farm, The Good Earth, and The Scarlet Letter. Senior year I didn't take honors or AP because I was in a special program to receive my LPN license and they didn't have any advance English classes offered at the time I needed it.
