Not sure what is considered the norm these days, so I thought I'd ask.

My brother's son is graduating from high school this year and we are going to the graduation party next weekend. He is going to live on campus next year, but doesn't know yet what he will need/want to bring. So basically he just wants cash as gifts.

Since he is close family, how much money is considered a "good" gift?

It all depends on what you are comfortable with giving. We usually sent our cousins kids 100.00 per high school graduation.

Our neices and nephews all received watches, so we spent approximately 250.00 a piece for those gifts.

I don't know why but we seem to always give more expensive gifts than if we just give cash. I'll have to ponder that for a awhile.

My DH has many nieces/nephews. This year 3 graduated and 3 others are getting married.

We gave $50 each for graduation. We're giving $100 each for the weddings.

I think a lot depends on your own financial situation and how close you are to the recipient.

For nieces and nephews and our very closest friend's children's Graduations, we give $100. If it's more distant friends or neighbors that we are not particulary close to or even know the child graduating, usually $50.

Most of my close family either gave between 50-100. Some of them also would .04 cents because I graduated in '04. I thought it was cute

Close relatives, friends, $100. Going down the chain to kids friends $50-20.

One our our DS's graduated from high school this year, and the other from college. They each received $50.00 from my brother's family and from DH's brother's family. Great-aunts/uncles gifts were $10.00 - $25.00.

Like others have said, it really depends on what you can afford and how close you are to the graduate.

And trust me, my guys appreciated each and every gift they received! :cool1:

$100.00 to nieces & nephews. Cousins/friends $50.00 , $25 to others.

My son graduated from high school last year. My sister gave him $250 and my husband's brother also gave him $250. I was kind of surprised that they both chose the same amount.

My son was very appreciative and thought the gifts were VERY generous!

In my family, we have a bit of an unwritten rule. $50.00 for high school graduations for nieces and nephews (there are a lot of them) and $75.00 is given by the godparent. $100.00 would break the bank the years when there are 3 graduating.
