DD's x-boyfriend is graduated from HS this year. We are still very close to him and his family. His grad party is coming up on Sat and I don't know what to get him. He gave DD a memo board, a CD, the sweatshirt he used to give her to wear when he was cold (always a romantic) and the backpack she loved that he got for playing soccer this year. She is giving him a pillowcase she made for him with photos and "Sayings" on it and a new warmup jacket. Ok his family gave her a laptop cooling pad, a mouse, a mousepad and a zip drive. I have no idea what to get him. Dont want to give $. Tried to get them to pin down what computer he is getting so we could buy the bag..nope. I thought perhaps I would get some gift cards to local restaurants that are near the college he is attending? Anyone with a GREAT idea. He already got most of his room stuff, sheets, towels etc.....

Would you be able to get your hands on some college logo stuff from the school he'll be attending? Most college bookstores will have a big selection of sweatshirts, jackets, jerseys, tees, blankets, mugs, keyrings, pens, stadium seats, etc. Our DS will be attending the college here in our hometown and I've already gotten him a few things - one was a nice leather padfolio that holds a legal pad and has the school logo embossed on the cover.

he sounds very sweet. of course young men do like money, and im sure it would always help. but your daughter is probably the best person to get ideas from.

I agree on the college ware... especially for freshman... it's pretty much ALL you wear freshman year! LOL!

I would suggest a gift card for the university "book store" with the IDEA being to BUY all of this garb with it, but there are too many "junk" things at book stores you can waste good money on. If you are going to go this route, I'd just buy the merchandise.

I would also suggest an iHome, the kind with an alarm clock. ;) College kids need those big time! Does he have a mini fridge for his dorm? If not, and the dorm allows one, I would suggest that! BIG ticket item for college kids... for COKE cans, of course. :rolleyes1 But seriously, a nice one with a freezer.

DS received an electric razor and his own Sonic Care toothbrush to take off to college with him as gifts.
I agree with the college wear - the Freshman really do like it.
A friend of ours made DS a dorm survival kit:
Laundry bucket (on wheels with a hinged lid and handle) a set of towels, a large cereal bowl and a box of favorite cereal, a set of reusable plastic silverware, favorite snacks and a shower caddy.
