High School Class of 2016/College Class 2020

Hi All! I thought I would join in. My dd17 is a senior. She spent the last 6 weeks in Guatemala for an internship working with children. We went shopping today as her senior portraits are scheduled tomorrow. She applied to her first choice college today, too. Band camp/rehearsals start in a week. The summer is flying by!

I was hoping this thread would be found again! DS & I visited colleges a few weeks ago and he loved the first one so that is where he plans to apply. He is working at our local Target and enjoying his summer. I can't believe that in a year we will be getting ready for college!

We are still in search of a college for my daughter. We visited about 4 of them already. One is high on her list but she wants to see 4 more.

I don't have kids that are Seniors next school year, but I am one. I can't wait for the upcoming. Planning for College(hopefully NYU-Tisch School of Performing Arts), the sports games, the dances/Prom, the all night study sessions/sleepovers for finals with friends, GRADUATION, and last but not least Senior Week. It's going to be one crazy year. Class of 2016 Rocks!!!!!!

DS is working, playing summer ball, relaxing and hanging with friends - they go fishing several times a week. He is pretty set with his college choice and will continue working toward that this year.

DD is working and also relaxing and hanging with friends, taking the dog in the pool and enjoying her hobbies. She's also pretty set with her college choices. She works really hard at her schoolwork all year so I'm happy to see her have a little down time now.

We had a nice family (sports/recreation) trip a couple of weeks ago and survived being on the road together for a lot of miles, lol. Actually managed to have a lot of laughs with them and enjoyed time spent together. We're all being cognizant of our family time; not saying we don't have much left, but we know it will be changing, you know?

Someone else mentioned senior pictures. Mine are having theirs done this month, too - mandatory "if you want them in the yearbook". I thought it seemed early, but I guess we can still have other ones done if we want to. I might do them myself, then. (Hobby photographer.)

It really is hard to believe how fast these years have gone by. It seems like just yesterday they were starting kindergarten! :teleport:

Just to comment about the Senior Pictures. I have to get mine done in August if I want the picture for the upcoming School Yearbook. Of course I want it for the yearbook so I am getting them done in August.

I'm so happy to see this thread! I'm still in shock that my DD is a senior even though we have been on several college trips since last fall! We're going to another tomorrow, all of the ones that are in her top list are out of state and her first choice is actually overseas - so we'll see.

@Marymom - wow! she's already applying! My DD has started working on her Common App questions and her personal statement. She's still deciding whether she's going to do a Early Decision or not.

This summer she's just taking it easy. She was admitted to a couple of academic college camps and decided not to go just to relax with friends, work and start planning her graduation trip next June!

My DD has an appointment for getting her Senior Portrait at the end of this month at which time I'm sure that the tears will come from me :)

Here, they have one company that takes the pics for the yearbook. You can either use them for all the pics OR they come into the HS to take pics just for the yearbook. We did that with ds #1 and had the pictures I actually wanted and paid for taken the following spring.

That's how they do it at dd's school. The yearbook photographer will come and take them in the fall at school. We can take location or other portraits any time. My dil will do dd's and we plan to get them done in the fall so she can take them outside and it be cool.

My DS is in fall sports mode already. Soccer and track training for the fall are in full swing.
He's been very laid back about everything so far, he's finally interested in getting his learners permit, so that's on tap for the next week.
He's done with SATs and only plans to take the ACT this fall. We've seen about five schools, and seeing has caused him to eliminate about three from his list. We will be adding visits to more schools in the coming weeks and some re looks in the fall.
His senior portraits came in, and I shed a tear, in about 13 months my best will be empty.
I'm happy for all he has lined up for senior year, but I'm afraid to blink and miss it all.

My DD is just working this summer and she is missing the first 4 days of school for Disney it would be our last chance to go before she starts college and my DS high school. She got CNA license so that will look good on her college applications and she is retaking her SATs in October she decided she better study this time.

Nice to see this thread bumped back up :)

DD finally got her driving permit last week. So after getting her on our insurance (eek!), I will get her signed up for her first behind the wheel class.

She is still deciding on additional colleges to look at (in addition to the two primary ones that she already knows she will be applying to). She has decided that if she doesn't get an art college that she wants, she will go the CC route and try and transfer later. No reason to spend month at a university that she doesn't really want to go to.

She has taken her SAT and ACT already but didn't score as high as we would like (more like upper end of average, LOL). But given that she is mostly interested in art colleges, the scores may be OK (some don't even require it). So we are still not sure if she will re-take the SAT in the Fall. She was accepted to continue on to her second semester of her Ryman scholarship so she will start back with those classes in the Fall also.

Senior portraits are scheduled for next month (originally it was the end of June but we were on vacation so now she got pushed back to later in August). We pick up her registration materials next week already. It is already going by so fast.....

I can't believe how quickly this summer is flying by! DS17 spent a week in June at the United States Navel Acadmey's Summer Seminar. He had a great time but had to miss 4 days of school. Thankfully it was considered a college visit so the time was excused. Two days after school ended it was off to St. Paul's Advanced Studies Program in Concord, NH where he spent 5 1/2 weeks in an Engineering program and a college Essay writing class. The students also had to participate in a sport/activity. The first few weeks he did ultimate Frisbee but the rest of the time he was in personal fitness getting physical therapy for a knee issue. Due to this he had to see a doctor and it was discovered that he has Lyme Disease. Joy. So things have been on hold in terms of working (outdoor job) and training for cross country. Now that he's home I've been after him about what colleges he needs to be visiting, getting more information about and having some idea of what he needs to be doing. Senior pictures will be taken by us since we have a good camera and lots of neat areas to do a photo shoot. It's what he wants to do so we will give it a try. I know that I'm totally getting on his nerves but Jiminy Crickets kid, get on the ball.

My DD's senior portrait proofs came in and I started crying when I saw them! My DD just looked at me like I had 2 heads :)

Her senior year starts in exactly one month and she's now trying to finish reading all the books she has to read and papers for her AP classes and now wants to go look at a couple more colleges :rolleyes2. She started working on the Common App since it came out!

I'm sure I will be misty when I see DD's senior pictures, too. They grow up way too fast!

Senior year starts in less than 2 weeks for DD- we are getting all the mundane stuff done now- dental appointment, shopping for clothes and other back to school stuff, etc. She has also started working on her Common App and has some college visits and interviews before school starts.

Dd willl have drape pictures done tomorrow.

Senior year starts officially Thursday but she has stuff going on at the school everyday so she will be in and out of the place every day. Gone tonight for the "newbie" choir gathering. She is one of the section leaders and choir secretary and part of their job is to plan all that kind of stuff.

Her friends and her plan to meet up Wed night to decorate all their cars for Senior parade Thursday morning. They have had group texts going on for weeks planning it all. Giggles and excitement!

Going to be a whirlwind year!

Joining in here. My dd18 begins her senior year in one month. My ds16 will begin the high school (but in special ed).

She hasnt done her senior pics yet asmshe and her friend were hit head-on by a drunk driver on the 12th and they are both still recovering (bruises and such), but since she cant tolerate weight bearing of any kind for more than an hour the pics are on hold.

I am soo axious as she has no real interest in applying to any colleges;she has no interest in taking the SAT's and is otherwise just unmotivated. She is under the impression she can just pick a college and show up on the first day lol.

I can't believe senior year is almost here. DS starts back Sept 8, and will be on the go from day 1. He became quite the little volunteer this year, after being so shy and a wall flower his whole life.
He has to study 75 words and read an assigned book for a test on the 2nd day of school, he has yet to open the book or print the word list. His summer has been nonstop soccer and track, he's expecting his best season this year, coming off a sidelining injury last summer, physical therapy has made him stronger than he was before the fracture.
He started the common app, but he's second guessing his essay. Last years English teacher retired, so he's freaking out wondering if his essay is good enough since he can't get in touch with one of his all time favorite teachers for feedback.
He took a break from looking at colleges for the summer, he prefers to see the campus in full swing, but my DH is trying to convince him to go see a few now before his life gets crazy this fall. Hopefully he listens, because he hasn't found the one yet, the one school that calls him home.

10 days til start of senior year! Mine has already had band camp, and this week she is assisting with Freshman Orientations (As a mentor). Senior pics don't need to be in until October 9 so waiting for it to cool off a bit-my neighbor is doing them (Assist head of photography dept at our local university) so we just need to let him know when. With band it is going to be a busy fall! She also wants to take ACT again (needs 1 more point to get scholarships and be in honor's house for her top choice of schools). Can't believe summer is nearly over already! May 6th is Graduation for us.

We're off today for a college tour - this time in state :yay:. All the colleges that DD has been looking at have out of state or Canada, so I'm a little excited that she mentioned that she wanted to check this one out :)
