I'm thinking of buying this for dd who is 11. The reviews are pretty good on amazon.com, but I'd like some expert opinions here.

TIA

I bought it for myself for our September trip. It's just me and DM (86) and I thought I could do the hunts.

1) Do a Google search for hiddenmickeys.
2) There are two site with good lists.
3) Save the price of the book.

Nay, it's out of date. The actual author has a website with up to date mickey's on it.

Can you post the link? We bought DD the book for our upcoming trip, but if we need to print updated lists, we can. We are staying at WL, and were looking forward to doing a hunt there.

There are actually 2 Editions of the book - and I will bet that there will be a third at some point soon. I do not think that it is "outdated" - Most (if not ALL) of the Mickeys that are listed at still there. There have just been some additions as well! It is definitely fun for kids of All Ages! Some are TOUGH to find though - even with the Guide!

Be sure to check out the Official DIS HM Thread as well:

There are some REALLY good pictures and stories on that thread! Have fun - Hunting for Mickey is one of our favorite WDW pasttimes!

The book is annoying to lug around, and you can print out hidden Mickey info in abunch of places for free.

Huge yay! I never take it in the parks with me. I always study the parks in the book in the hotel the night before we go. That way I'm not fiddling with it all the time and there's still the mystery aspect. If you remember them, that's great! If not, then you'll catch them next time!

This is kind of a personal decision. Me? I'd pass on it. For me, its the challenge of spotting them myself - without outside help.

My kids love to study the book in the hotel, and then the fun of finding them is great for them, plus we all look for new ones! But we don't lug the book...

The HM book is GREAT!! Author and DIS'er, Steve Barrett, is a fun guy. I have had lunch with him at Prime Time and met up with him several times at Mousefest.

I got the Hidden Mickey book. One of my boys loved it and practically memorized it. He points them out for us. :)

It's really not hard to "lug" around since the one he has is a fairly small book that we bought at Wilderness Lodge gift shop. He bought it a year or so ago when he was 11 and he brings it with him on every trip.

I just ordered one from Amazon.com! I wanted to get one in June and saw one, but didn't get it. So, I decided to order it and be prepared for our trip this October! Plus, I think it'll be a fun read at any time! :)

We bought it last year on our trip for our DS8 and we used it again this year. He loves reading the hints and looking for them. Our particular copy must have been sprinkled with pixie dust because this trip, my son left it behind two different times (once in our hotel lobby for about an hour, and in one of the countries in World Showcase for about an hour before we realized it was missing). Each time we went back to look for it, we were able to find it! We thought for sure that someone would have picked it up and walked off with it. I kept telling my son how lucky he was to get it back.

Well DD purchased her copy this weekend at Barnes & Noble because she had a giftcard. She didn't think it would be too big to carry around, and plans to keep it handy for when we are either eating at a TS or waiting in line. We don't plan to do the actual hunt, but we all agree it will be fun keeping score.
She will have her own bag to carry around this book, her autograph book & pen, & toothbrush etc (she wears braces).

Thanks to all who replied, and yes, we did get the 2005 edition. I know it has some new Mickey's, but this is just fine for us.
