Hi all, my name is Dan. I'm 21 and I'm from London, England am will be living in Canada for a year (most likely Toronto) as of 14 November this year and it would be really cool if I could meet some Canadian Disney fans like myself, and make new friends while I am there!
I was even maybe considering a trip down to Fl or Ca depending on how the money situation is - so if you are thinking about it then if I had some friends maybe a group could go together or summit?.. Only suggestion at this stage, but I'm looking to come over work, have some fun and make new friends so any ideas, suggestions and also tips and advice is very much welcome here!!
It's going to be a new and daunting experience for me!!
Thanks guys!

Hi Dan,
Just wanted to welcome you to the Canadian boards. It will be quite an experience for you to come to live here for a year. You must be so excited!

WELCOME DAN!

I did the same thing you are doing only the opposite when I was 20. I moved to London.

Where abouts are you from in Kent? I lived in Gillingham, for a bit as well!

You will have no problem meeting people once you are here! Your best bet for travelling to FL from here for cheap is to fly from Buffalo. You might want to check what documents you need to travel across the border in to the US from here. I know that I've had to go in to immigration with my friend when she comes over and she has to pay $6 and get a travel document to be in the States. I believe it's good for 3 months, and you have to turn it in when you come back in to Canada or they think you've stayed in the States.

I'll try and find you a link to Brits in Canada.

Have fun!

Marilynn

HI Dan, what will you be doing while you are in T.O. ? We are little north of the city, but pretty close.

Hope you enjoy your stay here... it'll be an experience compared to UK.
If you intend to fly to Florida from here, you need to go to the US consolate in London and get a Visa stamp in your passport. You will need it to go into the US by car or by plane.... It's good for 10 years I believe in a UK passport.

hi all thanks for replying to my message!
i had no idea i would need a visa stamp or summit!! lol ok so i will have to look into that one...
i will be arriving most likely on the 14 november and will be in toronto for at least 6 months no doubt - after that i might move some where else for 6 months before i have to return to the UK again.
anyway keep the posts coming - ant help or advice is welcome! places to stay, where to find a job lol - anything really!
DAN.

HI
Small world, we posted about our move as well a few days back, were in bexleyheath/ abbey wood borders here, but our move is permanent, i presume you are going out on a bunac scheme or similar, you will find the people on this board very heplful, if you want advice on place to go/ stay or visit.

I got loads of great advice, maybe well end up in the same place.

Hi Dan,

Welcome to the Canadian Board! It must be very exciting for you to be able to make this move over here for the year. What type of employment are you looking for here, or, what are your qualifications from school etc?

My DD traveled to London last year for 6 months, but she was a student and did University classes while she was there. It was a fantastic experience for her, she cannot wait to go back!

hi laura - im coming for any type of employment really - my visa has no restrictions except for health or child care where i need to get a police check, but other than that im open to anything.
i have high school qualifications and am currently an under grad studying literature.

Hi Dan!
From what I've read you will have your passport taken care of, but if you any intentions of working in Canada (unless you have this mass fortune that you aren't telling us about) you will also need a SIN card. Here's the governments link for you

hrsdc.gc.ca/en/gateways/topics/sxn-gxr.shtml

Any other questions, keep them coming, I'm sure one of us Canadians will be able to help.

im guessing u mean a social security number or summit - thats all being taken care of, thanks anyway. im all sorted in terms of legal stuff- us the practical stuff i need help wiv lol - where to live and a job itself.
