Hi kinda new and can't deside on

camping at FW or stay at the all star movies...but leaning toward the camping


1. do guests get the same perks like EMH like the other resorts?

2. and is it like DISNEY 24/7 like the movies if it is a little more laid back it's ok?

3. In the end would we end up spending the same if we stayed at the movies such as bike rentals and such? not including "fun" things

also what is the difference between the partical hook up and the full hook up? what will i need and waht does it include thanks I don;t camp too much at camp sites usually in the woods...Linda

First of all, a partial hook-up is water and electric only. If you are camping in a tent or a pop-up there is probably no need to spend the extra money for a site that has a sewer connection.

I just stayed at ASMu the first of this month and I, personally, really missed staying at Ft. Wilderness. We usually go for 2 weeks with our camper and I just love the fact that I can sit outside in my pj's with a paper and my coffee and just watch the world go by.

It IS laid back and, I think, a real hidden secret at WDW. There is nothing like spending the morning at one of the parks and then hanging out in the serene quiet of Ft. Wilderness for a couple hours before braving the crowds at the park once more.

We rarely rent any of the bikes, boats, etc. Just the last couple of visits we have rented the water sprites on Bay Lake and that was fun, but if you are short on $$$ something that you could live without. I found it just as much fun to ride on the ferry between the resorts. It is smaller and you get that laid-back "wind in your hair" sensation without spending a dime!

As far as perks for staying on site - YES!! You are a Disney Resort guest in every respect. Just like staying at the other resorts, you are entitled to the Extra Magic Hours and the free parking. And just like the other resorts, you are restricted from pool hopping. Ft. Wilderness guests can't use the Poly pool and Poly guests can't use the Ft. Wilderness pool!!!

If you are into camping and are a good planner/organizer, I think you will have a ball and a very unique experience!

As soon as you have your dates set! It books quickly, it seems, esp. in busier times of the year. And I would recommend calling CRO rather than using the web site. It seems to have limited offereings at times.

Sorry, but this is one of my pet peeves.....

If I get a partial site with my pop up, should I let the gallons of gray water pouring out the side dump on the ground?

If folks havn't noticed, pop ups are now in just about the same class as all other RVs. We have kitchens with sinks, toilets and showers. The most popular selling pop up today is the Fleetwood Niagara (I happen to have one). It has an oven, microwave, sink, hard wall shower and an RV style toilet with black water tank.

We have to be careful saying pop ups should only look at partial hook up sites now. One of the often overlooked facts is that FW does not have a dump station. Due to this fact ANY RV that is going to produce any tangable amount of gray/black water should pay for a full hook up site. I'm sorry to say that on too many occasions I have ridden my bike through the 1500 or 2000 loops only to see folks with pop ups just dumping gray water on the RV pad, or with a hose going off into the bushes. I'm sorry, but this is just wrong

I'd be curious to know when it is you'd be camping and in what. It is my feeling that the last thing I'd want to be doing is tent camping in FW in say August. Definetly go with the hotel then. Aside from heat..the daily thunderstorms are something to contend with. If you are going at another time of year.then I feel you have something to campare...or if you are camping in a motor home or travel trailer or pop up that offers you a/c in the heat of the summer.

we are going in July and we are looking for a trailer we might have to tent camp but don't want to....I do believe we can find one so I really think we'll have one by then b/c we aren't going until 2008.....BUT if we do the hotel we have to get two rooms and I am looking at how much we are saving...Linda

I haven't done it..but I don't believe I'd consider tent camping in July ..especially with kids. You would be much better off in a value resort with a couple of rooms. The heat and rain in July can be awful. It rains EVERY day at that point. Afternoon thunderstorms. They are usually welcome as they cool things off a bit..but tent camping with the thunder and lightening..can be a little rough with the kids.
Now if you have a pop up or the travel trailer, that's an entirely different story if you have the a/c and protection from the elements. Just my opinion, but I'd definetly wait for the trailer if I were to go to FW at that particular time of year.
I think for most folks that camp it really isn't even an issue of whether they save money doing so. It's a lifestyle choice. Even those who could afford a Deluxe resort enjoy taking their campers to FW for the amenities that the resort offers, and still have the proximity to the parks.

I have stayed at both the hotels and Ft. Wilderness... Even my daughter who is not a camper would rather camp, It is so relaxing... the sing alongs, movies just a nice stroll or bike ride, we take our bikes and rent a golf cart for Granny, when we stay for a week, we schedule our days like this, one day at a park and one day at ft wilderness... Tent in July will be hot... take fans with you that will help, both while you are sitting at the table eating and while you sleep... the bathrooms are nice and airconditioned... but whether you camp or stay at a resort... ENJOY...

That was why I said there is "probably" no need to spend the extra money for a site that has a sewer connection. I used "probably" because I know that some campers do have toilets/showers and those individuals would, of course, want sewer hook-up.
