Hello everyone,

Just checking in. I have been lurking for awhile and just couldn't resists joining such a fun loving group of fellow Disneyfiles who also loving camping...especially at my favorite place in the whole world, Fort Wilderness.

I've made several trips to the WDW and at least one to DL over the years and have camped in tents and our popup. One year my DW and I decided to try out the cabins. We are heading back this year (next month) and making the drive with the PU (popup) from Colorado. I've been spending the last 2 months getting ready...tow vehicle maintenance and popup maintenance, getting together my camping items, packing clothes, gathering quarters, topping off supplies. I see where members put out the green Mickeys and I intent to print one just as soon as I finish this post. We are scheduled to arrive on Oct 3, 2010.

Incidentally, my wife and I had our first official "date" at the Fort (we met online), so WDW is very, very special to both of us. This reminds of something that I have been wondering about. Does anyone know what kind of bird at the Fort has a call that sounds like "Uhh Unn" (like a negative response to a question)? On my first trip I spent the first 2 days trying to imitate the sound and now it reminds us of that incredible trip. Of course we suspect that the bird and the other wildlife are really just animatronic figures to enhance our camping enjoyment

Oh, thanks to EVERYONE for all the great information about what's been happening since our last trip at the Fort and the surrounding area. :thumbsup2

Welcome to the asylum! It sounds like you will fit in here just fine. That is so cool that you and your DW met at the Fort. I hope you have a wonderful trip. Make sure to come back and tell us all about it!

Don't know about the bird sounds, but the otters have never been accused of being animatronic-ized. Is the bear real? Lots of stuff there that is real, except the rocks with music coming out of them. Welcome and enjoy. :thumbsup2

Oh Boy, Welcome, We do the same thing before trips, except we start the day we get back from the last trip. Family thinks I'm crazy, But glad I was soooo overly prepared and crazy excited each day until we finnally arrive!!!:upsidedow

We are also over prepared. We start the list for the next trip on our way home from the current trip. There is an ongoing list of things we want to do and things we need to do. Having the list keeps us from forgetting the really important things. Anything else can be bought at WalMart.

Welcome to Fort Wilderness, ummm, I mean the best place until we are actually there....

Wow I thought I was the only one who did that. :surfweb:

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I'm one of those people who likes to anticipate issues and then plan accordingly (probably a hold-over from my Scouting days). Be Prepared.

My DW and I met online and we talked online and on the phone almost non-stop for 5 months. My DW had been to WDW multiple times since the 1970's and thought that FW would be the perfect place to meet face to face (this was my first trip to any of the Disney properties). We both flew into Orlando with our camping supplies. We had two 3 man dome tents and misjudged the weather in April. A cold snap hit the first two nights and we woke up frozen in the mornings. In our excitement of going to WDW we hadn't discussed bringing any cooking equipment. The second morning I was waiting for my DW to return from the comfort station and shivering at the picnic table when suddently a neighbor appeared with a cup of steaming hot coffee for me. Needless to say I was very apprieciative and I have never forgot how wonderful other campers are at the Fort. The weather turned back to normal for the remainder of the trip (which is so say hot, sticky, and rainy). I'll never forget my DW's reaction when we arrived at the MK and the castle was now a gawdy pink cake in honor of WDW's 25th anniversary..."what the $#%$^&*% have they done! I hate it!"

I've been rambling and now smiling remembering that trip. My excitement level for the upcoming trip is climbing steadily. Time to come back down to earth. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

May the "Fort" be with you. :)

I don't prepare for anything. When we head to the Fort, I pick up my fishing pole on the way outta the house,,
then when we get to the Fort I blame the wife for forgetting everything else, :thumbsup2

And WELCOME to the boards !!

That sounds like a good plan to me!:lmao:

Actually, I've been seriously thinking of bringing one of my fishing rods and trying a little casting from the bank. My father was a part time fishing guide back in MO. I've never hooked into a florida strain bass, but it always looked like fun on TV! :)

Welcome to the nut house! Please keep your hands inside the ride at all times. AND don't forget.....por favor manténganse se alejado de las puertas.

My DW and I spent two full trips memorizing "por favor manténganse se alejado de las puertas" and it is still a standing fun thing we do. :) I know that we will be saying it again and again as we ride the monorail.

Thanks for smile you gave me!

Now that you mention it...why don't we hear the announcement on buses and boats too? I'm feeling left out and I want to hear por favor manténganse se alejado de las puertas on the buses and boats too! pirate: Actually, I think I need it for my camper...just picture pushing a door bell button and hearing....por favor manténganse se alejado de las puertas.

Testing posting a pic, hope this works
