and I hope you can help! I feel kind of silly asking, but

my husband and I are planning on moving to Kissimmee in a few months and we both really want to work at Disney. I've been lurking around here a while so I know there are some people who work here, but I'm afraid to approach them. Would it be okay for me to ask a few questions about working there and like, pay and stuff? I'm nervous that we won't be able to work there and be able to pay bills without either getting a second job or one of us not working at Disney or something. If anyone can help me I'd love that!

I don't work there but I know several people who do...Disney isn't known for their great pay but are known for long hours. I've been at my job for three years and I make more than a good friend who has worked at Disney for seven...and he's one with the degree. Since you guys are moving here to be near Disney, that's fine but I would look elsewhere and the job market here is not that great right now. I hope you're looking into all possibilities and not just Disney. I think you would be disappointed otherwise. Sorry...that's just the way it is.

We do have several posters that are CM's and I know of at least one other moderator that is. When you have 6 posts here you can send PM's. I would suggest that you just send a very nice PM to them and ask if they would be willing to talk to you about what it is like to work for Disney. Really, people are quite nice here and would probably enjoy discussing it with you. They wouldn't let on that they are CM's if they didn't want anyone to talk to them about it!

Here's some info from the Disney Job Fair held on April 15 to help give you an idea:

Full-time Walt Disney World® Cast Members may be eligible for:

Weekly pay
Health-care insurance options including medical, dental and vision coverage
Paid holidays, vacation and sick leave
Retirement plan
Theme Park admission
On-site learning centers and programs
Access to Mickey’s Retreat, a recreation area for Cast Members and their guests
Discounts at select merchandise, dining, and recreation locations

Attractions Host/Hostess roles receive a starting rate of $6.90/hour.

Housekeeping roles receive a starting rate of $6.90/ hour plus a premium of $.35/ hour.

Merchandise Host/Hostess roles receive a starting rate of $6.90/hour.

Lifeguards now receive a starting rate of $7.95/hour for Shallow Water and $8.85/hour for Deep Water.

Cooks/Chef Assistants now receive a starting rate of $8.50 to $12.95 an hour based on experience and skill.

Maybe one of you could work at Disney to get the perks and the other get another job. Since my friend works there, I went down in Dec and was able to get in the parks free, go on a cruise with them at a great rate and go to their sale after the first few days and get great deals on discontinued merchandise. The perks are good if you like Disney.

Low pay, long hours. That is standard at Disney parks regardless of where you are. I worked at DL years ago, and it was true then, and remains true today. The perks are nice, but it's hard to make a decent living without some kind of supplement to what you would get. I think it's a great option for retirees and high school or college aged folks (when I was a CM), but probably not the best choice for other times of life. But that's JMO - I know several people who still work at DL by choice at my age and love it. I would do it again - if I didn't have a family, mortgage, car payment, gas to buy and vacations calling my name each year!
