Thanks in advance

I just want to say Welcome!!! I am new to planning this WDW thing too so I cant be much help in that department, im only good at the DL thing haha but this site is incredibly informative and everyone is super friendly and you will find when you need that Disney fix and feel the need to get excited with someone we are all here to jump up and down with you :thumbsup2

Welcome. To be of better help try to be a little more specific in your questions ie. How many in party, ages of kids, offsite or onsite preference, do you just want to park, park, park all the time or is part of holiday R&R, budget paramaters, are you driving or flying, rent car? Will try to help if you pm or answer a few of these in the thread. I always go in Feb/Mar so will not be of help re summer crowds, weather etc. but understand the summer is the busiest and very hot

Thanks guys. Well, we are a small family of 3 - one 6 yr old daughter. We plan on flying from Buffalo. We would probably prefer to stay on site.

Thanks

First off - WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!

My first suggestion is to go to the DisneyWorld website and order the Vacation Planning DVD.

Make sure you give them your email address.

That will get you in the running to receive discounts.. For example, I just received one this week that's good for 20% off resorts from August 10th to September 27th.

Going in August will be REALLY hot.. but later in August is not as crowded as June or July.

Did you have a month in mind?

You will probably want to stay at one of the value resorts on site then. Probably POP. I perfer off site as it is cheaper and can usually get better (condo with full kitchen) for same money. But then you don't have the "disney experience" the same (or so I am told) but after a full day at the parks I have had all the experience I need. The one advantage of on site if you are planning just parking then you can take a break in afternoon and back to room with daughter for rest or slip out to a fireworks. Although the resorts I stay at are just about as close to the actual parks as POP is so could do this as well but find you just don't do it.

I registered at the site, now to wait for discounts

Do they ever discount park tickets?? what's the best option since we will only have 3 days at the park?

Thanks again..

I can only recommed staying on-site, especially with only 4 days to see things....you won't see it all.

On site has constant bus transportation, extra magic hours, disney atmosphere 24/7, dining plan, etc.

You'll not spend much time in your room, so a VALUE resort is my recommendation.

We went the end of August last year........95 everyday........humid......only had showers 1 afternoon that affected our plans

Theme Park Tickets - Most of the savings or values for these come about for four, five and six day stays. The difference in park tickets for

Buy three day base tickets with no extras would be my guess. That will be plenty to keep you busy for just 3 days.

The difference in an adult (10+) ticket between 3 and 6 days.. is just about 15$.(216$ vs $231) It's not much to add extra days beyond three.

Clearly this would add to your hotel costs but knowing how cheap the tickets are for extra days beyond three.. is staying longer than 3 days something you could / would consider?

August is HOT. Like start perspiring-the-minute-you-walk-out-the-door HOT. The only saving grace was that at the end of August, the crowds were very thin. I think the U.S. starts school at the end of August instead of the beginning of Sept. like we do here in Canada.

But in my books, August Disney is better than no Disney...

Hello! I am new to the DIS boards too! I started visiting here when we decided to book our family's first vacation together to WDW. My girls are 4 and 6. We are also flying out of Buffalo. I found AMAZING flights out of Buffalo on Jet Blue (in August). We saved over $1700 by flying from Buffalo vs Pearson. I took all the books from the library that I could find on travelling to WDW, and I also have 2 Disney planning DVDs that we watch all the time to get us psyched!

I originally booked a vacation package from Disney. But then I realized I could purchase my theme park tickets from the local Disney Store (in Canadian dollars). I know we are currently at par, or even higher, but you never know how the dollar might fall in 6 months time. So I changed our reservation to a room only, with the intent to buy our theme park tickets locally. We still get Magical Express services, and now I only have to pay for one night's stay up front, with the balance upon arrival. When I booked the package, I had to pay a $200 deposit, but then I had to pay IN FULL 45 days prior to travel.

Good luck with all your planning!
