I notice a lot of people have Dis, Dis Rocks, Dis Member, etc in their signatures on VMK - I get that. ;)

But when somebody says "Hi Dis", is that a confirmtion that they know one another from these boards?

I say that sometimes and that is what I mean, others have done that to me and they are from this board, too. :thumbsup2

I ask bc there have been some ppl from these boards I have went over and spoken to (said Hi Dis) and they have actually been a bit rude in return. I will certainly not post names, but those ppl know who they are. ;) Last night, I said hello to one of the ppl here and his response was "whatever, i dont know you. dont talk to me" Maybe Hi Dis means something else? :confused3

By the way, BriarLori, that was my alternate/sister character dressed as "Fish Out of Water" that came over to say hello to you the other day. :)

Well ti might be that people have actually been banned for mentioning Dis. We are not to mention boards we belong to on VMK. That might make some people nervous or pretend they did not hear you. Because to acknowledge it would be to break VMK values and face a possible ban.

I have never said "Hi Dis" as a way to greet another Dis Board member. And if someone had said "Hi Dis" to me, quite honestly I wouldn't think they were talking to me. I would have thought they were talking to someone else.
I have said "Hi Dis" to friends of mine, that have Dis in their vmk Titles. Short for Disney something or other.

I did not think saying "hi dis" was a bannable offense. After all, the game is Virtual Disney. I would never say Disboards, Dis Boards, Dis Member or anything of the sort, but Hi Dis is no different than me saying, "Hi Too" to Mal or Hi Cat" to Cat.Herder.

I know your not referring to me, but I am one of the paranoid people who probably wouldnt respond to that. I would probably give you just a

: )

If I talk to an individual, I try to call them by their title, or a shorter version of, never Dis. However, if I walk into a room I may say hi to the Dis Peeps or People and that's where I leave it. Then whoever can respond however they like.:) When I mention the boards, I never say Disboards, just boards. That way it could be any board anywhere.:) If they are Dis, they'll recognize it. lol

My response in the past has always been, "Please do not discuss other sites on vmk, it is against the vmk values." Then my next response is usually, "hi!" lol I am perhaps overly cautious about mentioning outside fan sites on vmk. I do quite often say, "I see Dis people" when I enter a room filled with other Disboards members.
Don't take offense if someone ignores the, "Hi, Dis" comment, they may just be cautious like me. Say hello to Dis people the same way you would say hello to any vmk player.

Well I hope no one is offended by me saying "Hi Dis" I would never said "Hi Dis board.hers"

saying Hi Dis is not a bannable offense mentioning the DIS board by name is.

as in:
Hi Dis board.her or hers
Wow a room full of dis board members
etc

you are also not really supposed to have "dis" in your signature line but loads of DIS members do.

Yavn himself asked me to remove it from mine.

Saying "Hi Dis" to me is just fine, since dis is my short title on VMK. The only way that I have dis in my signature is that it is my short title. I don't think that using dis as a short title is putting me at risk for being banned, and it also makes any questions about what Dis is very easy to answer. I can just say it's my short title and not mention the boards. I'd rather have someone ask here if I'm also dizanimator on VMK than the other way, because I don't have to risk getting banned.

As someone who got burned for room descriptions containing the name of a group fan site project, I too am paranoid about anyone addressing me as "Dis", or referring to any other fan site.

"Dis" may be easier to get away with than other fan site titles, because it's also a general Disney reference. But I would not push it with VMK.

Thanks for mentioning this, Mal. I think folks need to be aware of it.

Also keep in mind that they may actually be saying hi to someone with DIS in their name. Both my daughter and I have names that start with DIS so we get that all the time. DIS is actually for Disney and not the DIS. :)

It's also there in case you want to give someone else stock market advice.

I have mentioned it before. I think I even made a thread about it a while back when he told me.

:) I do not take offense.

Nobody has to talk to anybody, so if I am ignored when I say that, it is cool.....but being rude (like the mentioned comment in my first post) is a whole other story.

I will be more cautious about saying "hi dis" considering that others may be freaked out by it. However, I still do not see that as mentioning a fan site. Anybody on VMK is a Dis(ney) person! ;) That is my story and I'm sticking to it.

I have [ dis ] in my siggy on VMK. It's nice to see it because I usually assume they're from the boards. Just today waiting for hosts in Storybookland, just chilling I saw someone with something like "Bring Bubbles Back" I remembered that from the boards asked if they were dis then that was it. It's fun to meet people :)

I think we need to have secret code greeting...

"Hey, look at that blue Disney Sky!"

Then any dis'rs in the room can answer with:

"What do you mean, that sky is green!" (or yellow or tink or etc)

Then only dis'ers will know who is and who isn't!

LOL -- sometimes I do things for my own amusement!

I often say "Hey Dis!" when I enter a room of Dis board people. I also have a "Dis" reference in my signature. (It says just that - Dis). After reading this thread, I probably won't do it anymore, because I don't want anyone to feel awkward or nervous about being banned. But I am not taking it out of my signature! :goodvibes

I usually say something like, "Hi, Disney fans"! or, "I see Disney people"! Some people get it and respond, some don't. LOL!

I have never said "Hi Dis" to refer to a DIS board member. I do have friends who have "dis" in their title. We called them "Dis."

That might be the confusion. However, like Aengus, if someone were to say to me, "Don't I know you from Dis?" I will fall silent instantly. Just to be safe.
