I have been surfing the web trying to find out a lot of info about HHN, we will b doing it for the 1st time this Sept or Oct.

My question today is.........

I have found some info tht says if you can get into the park before they close the gates and get into the HOLDING areas, this is this is the best plan, BUT.....would i need a Regular Admission TICKET do so or do they let you in to just go straight to th holding area?

We are undecied if we will be doing the day there or not.

THANKS

You would need a theme park ticket to get into the park and an HHN ticket to get into the holding area...which opens a little after 5PM. HHN is a hard ticket event meaning you must have a separate admission ticket for HHN to attend.

Generally yes, unless you're in one of their hotels. Keep in mind, this varies a bit from year to year, but going on last year, you had three options for early admission:

(1) Buy a day ticket to Universal Studios. By 5:00 p.m., be in one of their "holding areas" (beside Finnegans or down by Woody Woodpecker). Wait until 5:45ish to get in.
(2) Buy a day ticket to IoA, between 5:00 and 5:45, cross over through the backstage area to the Studios (the path starts behind One Fish, Two Fish ... they do check for HHN tickets before you can use it). Wait in the holding area beside Dispicable Me until 5:45ish.
(3) Be an onsite hotel guest. Use the special line at the right of the ticket-takers, even if you don't have a day ticket. No idea where it led to, but apparently it also let people get in around 5:45.

Early entry is a huge benefit. You can probably knock out at least two houses before the general public; prior to 2012 it was usually three or more. Be sure to wear dark sunglasses, it will make it easier for your eyes to adjust to the houses.

Also, if you buy a day ticket, you can upgrade to HHN that night at a discount. It's called the "Stay and Scream" discount, not sure how good it was (I always just get a season pass) but it's worth looking into if you're only doing one night.

ok, so the only way, if i am not a resort Guest to get into the HOLDING AREA, is to have a day ticket and a HHN ticket.

I think i am reading this correctly.

Because i know i want to be in th Holding Area!!

Yes...that is correct. A theme park ticket is needed for access to a holding area whether its through the IoA back door or through the Studios.

I'm so excited for you! We went there for the first time last year and can't wait to go back on 2014!
As others have stated you'll have to buy a theme park ticket to be in the holding area, we did that on 2012 and it was cheaper than buying the whole price ticket for the only event as we were anyway doing Universal studios that day!
Have fun!!

This past year, we were able to walk up to the ticket counter and buy a pass to IoA a few hours prior to HHN opening, then we used the back entrance into HHN. I think it was about $20 for the pass, and we were able to do most of the big rides at IoA in about 2.5 hours. Good luck!! Wish I were going this year. Maybe next year.

I have an AP and always stay inside the park in the Stay and Scream area, last year we went with people who didn't have AP's and they bought that early entry ticket for $20.That ticket can be used at either park and gave them entry at 3pm,they went into IOA and did the Potter area and then we hopped over to USF around 5:30-5:45 by Seuss Landing. The holding area if you're at USF is the street by Finnegans pub.

So this Early entry ticket , You can get into the park at 3 then you go to a holding area at set time, then you have another ticket for HHN.

But possibly if you have the $20 ticket you may not need the almost $60 + Front of the line ticket.

we don't know at this point if the early entry $20 ticket will be available for HHN.
that ticket is for the park admission.

still need to buy the hhn ticket in order to enter the holding areas for HHN.
your hhn ticket is scanned by the TM's there. (holding area)

it is called an Express Ticket that allows you to enter each house, ride, once only.
it is a separate ticket from the HHN park ticket.
price varies per day of the week you attend.

even if you do the holding area, aka Stay and Scream section, it won't necessarily mean you will be able to do all the houses.

if crowds are low or decent, you should be able to do all the houses at least once in the regular line.
it all depends on the date you go and the crowd level.
the first couple of weekends tend to have less crowds than the rest of the month.

by being in the holding area once the park closes, you will be able to do the first three houses without too bad of a wait.

after the front gate is open to the public, you'll start to see some house lines for some of them.

If lines are as long this year as they were last year, you will definitely need Express for HHN...if you want to do everything in one night. It is not called "front of the line" but Express. The holding area will help during the first 45 minutes or so...how ever long it takes for the general public crowd to get to the houses. I made the mistake of not purchasing Express last year and for the first time in a lot of years, I wished I had. But...you haven't seen lines at the Studios until you see the lines for the houses at HHN.
