We are going to HHI in July on my Sister's timeshare, so no Disney. We are planning on driving down Fri, staying the night and arriving on HHI Sat morning, July 10. Our family is leaving the following Wednesday. I will be VERY pregnant and almost cancelled, but I need the relaxation!

We want to golf once, go on a dolphin cruise and check out the Disney resort for future research, lol!!

We are staying at Sea Pines. Any tips on food, packing, things to bring for the beach, fun activities are greatly appreciated!

It will be HOT, HOT, HOT!! Be extra careful since you will be very pregnant at that time. During our summer trips we spend most of our time in the water b/c its so hot. Now the lovely side of that is that the ocean temp will be about 85 degrees!! Love it!! LOVE HHI's beach. Its very wide, with compacted sand great for sand castle building and its easy to walk, run or ride your bike on it. :) After the beach we tend to spend lots of time at the pool. Now Disney has cool activities going on too all the time, but I'm sure you're resort too.

Although we have played golf during the summer there just warning you again it will be so hot, not sure I'd want to play pregnant. But they have so many beautiful courses and during the summer they are not too hard to book b/c of the heat.

Since you are down at Sea Pines, you have to make an obligatory visit to the Salty Dog Cafe. :) Loads of restaurants and shopping all around the island. Lawton Stables is also at Sea Pines and you can do a horseback ride on the beach, if you're family is so inclined. :)

Have a great trip. We love HHI!!

We LOVED Stack's Pancake House for breakfast. They use fresh ingredients and make everything from scratch. I remember their strawberries and cream pancakes and want to hop in my car to get more! Most of the tourist books will have a coupon for them.

We went to HHI last August, and mostly stayed in the pool or in the ocean - it is VERY hot. We did get some outlet shopping in - couple of places there with cute baby stuff. Across from the Disney Resort is a fireworks show and street festival.

Have a great trip!

Everyone is right about the heat - it will be very hot! Sea Pines has great beaches and if I were you I would grab a chair and good book. :goodvibes There are dolphin cruises that leave from the South Beach marina in Sea Pines - right where the Salty Dog is located. They go into Calibougie Sound. The water is really calm and we have seen lots of dolphins on this cruise. Have a great trip. My mother lives on HHI year round and it is a truly magical place!

Forgot the mention restaurants. There are many great places to eat- especially in Sea Pines. South Beach and Harbortown both have many to choose from. I would avoid the Crazy Crab. It is really touristy with lots of fried seafood. The Quaterdeck offers great views of the Harbortown Marina and CQ's is nice for a romantic dinner. If you want to venture out of Sea Pines, Charlie's Crab, Boathouse II and the Old Fort Pub (inside of Hilton Head Plantation) are all wonderful.

Thanks everybody! I am soo looking forward to a relaxing few days on the beach!

We are driving from Ohio. The plan is to get within 3 or 4 hours of HHI and stay the night. Any tips on a town to stay?

I'm assuming you are coming down to 26 to 95. If this is correct, Spartanburg, SC will be your last major town for quite some time (it is about 4 hours from HHI). There are several reasonable and nice hotels in that area around Highway 29/Westgate Mall (exit 22 I think?). If you don't stop in Spartanburg, there is not much until you get to Columbia, about 90 minutes away.

Have a great trip!
