HHI-Thanksgiving meal

If you've ever spent Thanksgiving at HHI, please help me. DH is sure our meal involves getting our things at Piggly-Wiggly and he tells me he's NOT going to eat Thanksgiving dinner from Piggly-Wiggly. I'm sure I remember someone saying that the resort has complete meals that they offer (not just bought from Piggly-Wiggly). Or I told him I was sure we could go out somewhere for lunch. But DH is sure that we'll be stuck with a Piggly-Wiggly take-out meal. Please, someone must be able to reassure him that's not going to happen.

Have no fear. The resort DOES offer a Thanksgiving dinner. You should probably be getting something in the mail in a few weeks.

In the past, there has been a choice of either a roast or deep-fried turkey and all the fixin's. We have never done it, so I don't know exactly what you get, but I think you get to make a few choices along the way.

I think in the past some people requested and were able to get a 1/2 turkey instead of a whole one, but again, the memory is kinda fuzzy because we have never done this.

I always do a "semi-homemade" Thanksgiving dinner: roast a turkey, but use Stove Top Stuffing and cut corners where I can.

Oh man, I can't wait!!! We love, love, LOVE Thanksgiving at Hilton Head!!!

I'm thinking this is a good time to have crab legs instead of turkey legs. One year we had flatbread pizza's on the deck at the Green Cabin Room Vero Beach. We talk about that Thanksgiving meal more than any other and what a view!

Another option for a take-out Thanksgiving meal is Kenny B's restuarant. Did this 2 years ago and it was great! Huge amounts of food, including deep fried turkey, she-crab soup, 4-5 sides, corn bread, a whole pie. Very reasonable price. You do have to drive over to Kenny B's and pick it up though. They only sell so many dinners (think it is 100) so order early if you want to go this route.

we are going back this year for thanksgiving again, I can tell you, based on my experience, unless you have amazing willpower, you will want to order a deep fried turkey from the resort. They smell wonderful throughout the resort on Thanksgiving, and if you don't have one, you will wish you did!!!!

We've got a HH one bedroom for TG this year- usually we have a studio booked. The plan was to arrive very late Tuesday and stay through Saturday morning. Was going to cook, but maybe we'll do the carryout thing anyway since it's just easier and more relaxing all the way around.

For the OP, we've done the PW take out and it can be good. You just pick it up and add in all the extras that make your dinner special. The turkey we had from there was excellent. I believe they also have the same basic options (including fried turkey) as the resort 'carryout dinner' but at about half the cost. The PW in HH has done a lot of upgrading since last year - the store is very nice now, although it is still geared to tourists. The resort dinner is also usually not promised until afternoon, if I remember correctly, and PW had their's ready early in the morning, in time for us to pick it up and then get to the football game on the beach.

Kenny B's is a New Orleans/creole type food casual restaurant. Really good food.

Kenny B's is on Pope Ave, from the Sea Pines circle you pass the Lutheran church and then the restaurant is on your right, in a small grocery store strip. I wish I could recall the entire menu.....but we had tons of food, the five of us were eating it from Thanksgiving through Sunday.

Also, if you don't want to do Thanksiving, at least stop in there to eat. They have beignets for breakfast and dinner is casual but good. There's also a drive through window for take out orders.

The fried turkey, like DH tried to do in a huge kettle? Sounds delicious! I just realized something-what are we going to do with all the leftovers? There's only two of us so there'll be leftovers. But we're flying, so we can't just put a cooler filled with ice in the back of the car. Oh, darn-another reason why we've got to hurry up and retire-I can't wait to move within driving distance of HHI and WDW.
