We will be at HHR for a couple of nights at the end of October this year. We will have a car and want seafood for dinner. Where do the locals go for seafood on HHI. I do not care if I am sitting on a lawn chair eating off a plastic table as long as it is good and plentiful.

Thanks for any advice

Simba's Mom suggested Sea Shack to us, and we ate there twice in a two night stay! We ate outside on picnic tables!

We love Sea Shack too!!! There is always crowd when we have been there, but the line moves quickly!

Well I really like Sea Shack, but DW isn't as wild about it - she complained about the seafood being too greasy the last time we went. I would say overall our favorite place is Old Oyster Factory. The last few times we've been there I've gotten the Tilapia and it was delicious. Hudson's is just okay in our opinion as well as Kingfisher (they used to have the best shrimp and grits but took it off the menu for some reason). I also like Uncle Bubba's over in Savannah.

It's funny, over time we've gone to a number of beaches both here in North Carolina, down in Myrtle Beach and also at Hilton Head - but for fresh fried seafood we still get better seafood here at home (we're two hours from the coast).

the sea shack became really popular when it was on a travel channel/food channel show several years back.

the chef back then has since moved on and started his own place: roastfish and cornbread.

sea shack is still using a lot of the same recipes/ideas but in my limited experience, R&C was much better quality food. YMMV.

We walked across to Shelter Cove and ate at Parrot Cove. We all had crab legs, which were all you can eat, and they were absolutely wonderful! We liked the fact that our server kept a close eye on our plates and would asked if we were ready for more...when we were, he brought them right out to us...hot, fresh and very yummy! We ate there on the first night of the trip, and it turned out to be the very best meal of all! We'd go back there in a heartbeat!

Another fun place is Salty Dog in Sea Pines. The problem with Roastfish and Cormbread is, although it's excellent, the secret's really out. When we went for an early dinner last month, it was already packed.

:sad1:

i was probably lucky going the first year they were open. they weren't even in the standard HHI restaurant guidebook in the resorts.

hopefully it won't be too crowded in the offseason.

i did enjoy a lobster roll at salty dog...HHI certainly does not lack great places to eat...

Another vote for Black Marlin. We had dinner there last year and thought it was very good.

We did not care for Hudson's but we love Old Oyster Factory. :thumbsup2
