Hi,

We are leaving for HHI in about 2 weeks for 5 nights. This will be our first trip there and we have a 12 and 2 year old. Are there any "must do's". We plan on spending the morning on the beach and heading back after lunch to give the 2 year old a nap. We are excited about making t-shirts and the fireworks night. Does anyone know what night that is. We also plan on heading to Savannah on our last day. Any ideas for a day in Savannah. We will only have about 7-9 hours there.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Susan

Fireworks are I believe Tues nights. We will be staying there in 3 weeks and also plan to go to Savannah 1 day. We are doing Paula Dean Tour, visiting the oldest catholic church in Georgia (I think), and then going to visit the Girl Scout founders home, juliette low's (i know i spelled that wrong)

Fireworks will be every night starting June 14( or around that date. ) I will refrain from some comments about HHI until I get my car fixed! Then I can give some pros and cons. One thing I was very disappointed in is how far away the beach is from the resort. Guess we are spoiled with VB.

I did 2 out of 3...missed the church...but loved the Paula Dean tour, and the lunch at Uncle Bubbas that came with it, and I was a Girl Scout too, and couldn't miss seeing Juliette Low's house. We loved Savannah, and will visit it again someday!

Do a nature tour, dolphins is our favorite. Lots of great places to eat.

In Savannah do the trolley tour, it allows you to get off and then get back on.

The one thing that I noticed is that we make all these plans....and never follow through. The kids just don't want to leave the resort. This year we took friends, same thing for them. Their 7 year old cried as they were pulling out......beach house, beach and resort...nothing else is needed!

We loved going into Sea Pines for the day. We toured the lighthouse, ate at The Salty dog,(bought tons of their t-shirts), and walked around that shops in that area. We also went to the horse stables, (I think Lawton stables). The girls took a pony ride and walked around the little petting zoo. May be boring for the 12 year old, but the 2 yo may like it.
We loved HH even though we are not beach people. The girls did like to walk on the beach at low tide though and search for sea life and play in the water.

Have fun. Dh and I will be there for a couples only trip in Oct and can't wait.

Hilton Head is our favorite!

You kids will love seeing Greg Russell sing at night in Sea Pines/Harbor Town. Call Sea Pines to see what night he is singing. He is there most every night but call first. That is the only must do event in my book. He is a Hilton Head legend. Get there early to find parking, because it will be packed, and just walk around Harbor Town before the free show.

The shuttle to the beach is fun and very convenient.

Hilton Head is all about relaxing and playing it by ear. Take it slow and poke around the shops and that kind of thing.

Fuddruckers by the resort is a great place to get burgers. The kids will love it.

I would avoid the Disney cookout because it is a rip off. Just eat out and come back for the free pool party and games.

I found the Greg Russell info.

Gregg Russell Concerts
May 26 & 29, from 8:00 - 9:30pm
June, July & August, every night except Saturdays, from 8:00 - 9:30pm
Over the years, he's become a Sea Pines classic. Under the Liberty Oak in Harbour Town is where you'll find Gregg Russell entertaining adults and children alike. His concerts are not to be missed. Complimentary.

I would suggest having your 12 year old do the kids night out. It is kinda pricey (I think $25 for pizza and a movie), but was well worth it for my 12 and 8 year olds. They both made several friends and had someone to play with for the week. All of the activities are great for the kids. Mine especially liked Mickey tie dye, messy science, and Goofy Bingo, as well as the kids night out. Savannah was cool, but the kids would have much rather stayed at the resort! Have a great trip!

Anything with Shannon Tanner is good. Also, don't miss "Shadow's Tales" and just visiting with Shadow if she is around.

Please see my TR as it will give you some facts about the resort. Alot of things stated are island related and not resort related.

Ah, yes-you've gotta meet Shadow. And the tip about Salty Dog was good. The mention of Dolphins reminded me-go out on the pier and spend a little time watching the water-we've seen Dolphins playing in there. There's a Resort marsh tour where you have to put on boots, I forget the exact name of the tour, but that one's lots of fun.

Here's Shadow, with her friend B'leu Crabbe-

Yes, a great recommendation for the kids night out. We missed it last year on our visit but will be the first thing we sign our 9DD up with. Everyone previously has mentioned how quick the kids make new friends for the week!
