Hello yall,

My husband wanted me to ask about the golf options down in HHI. The HHI Disney webpage doesnt go into detail about golf packages and was wondering if they offered any discounts. i'm doing my google searching now and am looking for a 2-man outing package of about 2-3 rounds. Anybody with course info, package info, experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

The HHI Disney doesn't get involved with golf packages, at least not that I know of. DH always golfs a couple times when we go to HHI, but he just reserves either on his own or thru the front desk of the resort. I believe there's some discount golf for people reserving tee times at the last minute, like the day beforehand. Maybe someone here can tell you more about that. Right across the street from HHI resort is Palmetto Dunes, which has 3 courses. I think there's some discount if you sign up at the same time to play 2 of the courses, rather than just one course, then some other time sign up for the other course. And from DH's experience, those are some great courses (although he hasn't played the George Fazio course, I've heard that one is by far the most challenging).

My DH just told me that you do get a little bit of a discount by going to the front desk. You pick the courses, they make tee times for you. And directions on how to get to the course. Disney probably has a "deal" with some of the courses. He played Indigo Run and the Arthur Hills course at Palmetto Dunes. He enjoyed them both.

We are headed to HH in Sept. He just realized last evening that I was "going to let him play golf" - :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Now he is one happy golfer (or should I say 'dancing banana')

Hope you have a good time. It is a wonderfully relaxing place!

When you get to HHI, you can also pick up one of the "golf guides" that are free at many stores and restaurants. There might be some good deals there.

Also, depending upon the time of year you go, there may be discounts at certain times of the day -- the hotter it gets, the less it costs. :sunny: Take a look at the local newspaper (The Island Packet ) to see what is advertised.

Some of the off island courses are less expensive, but DS and DH have found that they're not always in the best of condition. :sad2:

A question - has any of your husbands been matched up with others to play. I'm real anxious to play next time we're down at HH, but I will be by myself. Will the pro shops match you up with others to make a foursome?

Yes, it all just depends on what they have going on. My husband and son have gone as a twosome on many occasions and have been paired with another twosome.

When we were down just a few weeks ago, my son went out alone and was actually allowed on the course by himself. Of course, it was extremely hot and humid and not too many people were anxious to spend time out on a golf course! He loved the opportunity, but did make sure he had plenty to drink with him!!

I played twice in April at HH. I made a tee time at Oyster Reef on my own on the Internet and got a rate that was better than that available through the resort. I got a tee time (a great one I might add) through the resort for the Golden Bear course at Indigo Run for a competitive rate (especially for a morning tee time). In both cases, the tee time was for me alone, but I was paired up with other golfers once I arrived and had a great experience in both places. Last Minute Tee Times is another source, but you need to wait till the night before to check availability.

Yes, DH always just makes the tee time for himself and he always gets paired up with others by the pro shop. He kind of likes it-meeting other people there, finding out where they're staying, someimes he get tips on places to go, different resturaunts. Actually, only one course has ever sent him off by himself and it made him feel as if they viewed him as a "tourist" who had to be separated from the "members". But generally, he's had great experiences being paired up, both there and WDW (although at WDW, he's usually on the giving end of information, not the learning).

We used Last Minute Tee Times" for our trip last month. You get great rates and in the summer there is alot more availablity. I was worried about waiting until the night before to call but we were always given several choices of places to play and were able to pick the time we wanted to play.

check the various hhi golf websites. there are so many discounts, you'll go crazy. summer rates are really low. i played last aug. at oyster reef. late pm. nobody in front and nobody in back. the courses are great. have a greaty time. :rotfl2:

He ended up booking a website package 2 courses for $138. A lady actually called him back to tell him one of the courses he picked is torn up in spots so she picked another one for him. They got 8am tee times. It will be hot :sunny: :sunny: The courses are the Country Club of HH and Old South Golf Links. I hope they're good. I'm just one of those "prepay" people. I don't want to be surprised by costs later.

DH heard that the Country Club of HH is a very good course. He was considering trying it out on our next trip ("So many golf courses-so little time", he says). When you get back, please PM me or post here how those courses were.

I'll get the full report from DH

Okay, we're back from HHI. What a great time! :cool1:

DH said both Old South and Hilton Head Country Club were good courses. "Better than any course I would go to in Wisconsin." Neither had ocean views or anything that blew him away but he liked both the courses.

I did get a PM from someone who told me that the Old South course was torn up when her DH went 2 years ago but this is no longer the case.

That's all the info I got out of him. If you have specific questions about the courses, PM me or ask me here.

Thanks for the report. The locals in April told me to not bother with Old South as it was supposedly in very poor condition and had been let go. Glad to hear that wasn't the case when your DH played.

Just got an email from Palmetto Dunes that they are now offering golf carts with air conditioning for all of their courses, as well as Segways. Kind of a novelty thing, I guess. They are calling it "cool transportation".
