We were at HHI last March and enjoyed the resort. Normal list of issues including no on-site restaurant and not on the beach, etc.. However, we had a very nice trip. My real issues are as follows:(1) the substantial cash discounts recently offered during off-peak (which is most of the year there) and (2) if you play a lot of golf, you get great discounts if you stay at a golf resort. During our stay, we found that we could stay at Sea Pines and play golf for about the same price as it cost us for greens fees staying at DVC. We may go back to HHI but I doubt we will stay at DVC (unless we can get a $99 2 BR). I just don't see HHI as a good points value. Perhaps in the summer? But aren't there better ocean front timeshares in HHI for less money?

Of course, but they're not DISNEY! it just wouldn't be the same staying anywhere else. I go there for the quaintness of the resort, its disney charm and the cast members. I can vacation anywhere on the island, heck there's even a motel 6 around the corner if you really want to save some bucks, but i can't imagine staying anywhere else! We've stayed in Sea Pines before, right on Harbourtown Golf Links course, yes you had to drive to the beach but you could walk to Harbourtown to eat, we had 3 stories and 4 bathrooms, but no way would i give up the disney resort for even that! Plus, no other resorts on the island play that wonderful Disney music! :sunny:

We owners at HHI are never offended when others do not like our resort. I remember the good ole days when no one would even think about trying HHI. I used to not even have to worry about the 11 month in summer time until about 2000.

We fell in love with the resort when we stayed during the opening year. We had a coupon out of Southern Living. We did not even take a tour. We just love the "Bob Timberlake" theme. The layout. That it is in the marsh, across from Shelter Cove. We love the beach house. the Cast Members, ect. ect.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza last Oct. and we like that place a whole lot. We also like the Westin. But the whole time we were there, we felt like we were in town to visit friends but never stoped by to see the family. We went to San Migeuls and just sat ont the patio and loved the resort with our eyes. ( we did not visit because we were not staying there.)

It was real nice and quiet until 2002. Before that, (many people looked at HHI as a failure. No one even wanted to stay there. I really think that these boards are responsible for the selling out of HHI, Not the DVC sales teams. It was like all the sudden people started posting that this just might be the best kept secret in the Disney Company. And then the place started selling. Yes, it took time to sell out, but not because it was bad, it was people not being sure they could do Disney and not be at WDW.

So anyway, I am glad that you tried it and had a good time. Everyone has unique taste. For me, BWV is the last place I would want to stay at DVC. It not because it is bad, its a wonderful resort, its just not my style, it is not laid back enough.

Canda,
Very well said! I remember when we bought DVC in 1996, we had points to "use or lose" and since we had just come from the WORLD, we decided to just use them on HH, thinking, at least they won't go to waste, although it wasn't my first choice of places to go. Well, we fell hard for the resort that very first time and have gone back every year since. If HH were the ONLY DVC resort, we still would have bought DVC. I would even go so far as to trade my 300 OKW points for my 152 HH points! OKW is my second favorite resort, then probably WLV. We didn't care for BWV but only because we got a bad room (in bad shape), the location is ideal if you like Epcot! I'm glad DVC gives us so many choices and there really is something for everyone! I only wish its best kept secret, HH, was still a secret!

my understanding when it comes to golf, is if your taking a "golf vacation", then its worth doing a "golf package". My understanding of HH (which is why we are probably going to try it in January), is its more of a back to nature, kick back and relax kind of place? Type of place you can go run on the beach, fly a kite, bike ride, marsh walks, etc? Hope all that's true. I also like the more laid back atmospheres. I also don't care for the Boardwalk areas, just too busy, but I love VWL, Vero and OKW. Not that something is wrong with the boardwalk area hotels, just not my cup of tea!!!

My point is that HHI is probably not the best choice for your DVC points if you are an avid golfer or off-season visitor (deep discounted cash rooms). I would guess that there are not many folks renting DVC points to use at HHI during the offseason. We were there in March (golf, some pool/beach, sightseeing) - You'll be able to see the island in January but not much else (Savannah & Charleston are options). It will be cold.

I much perfer to stay in Sea Pines and just rent from them or from an owner.

I don't find the "DISNEY" worth the trade off at HHI. I have points there, used them for HH once and then quit. I want to be a short walk to the beach and in the plantation for biking, not off a major highway.
