Just curious - what is the earliest you've been able to checkin and get into your unit at HHI? We live about 5 hours away and I'm prone to leaving early (like 7:00) and try to checkin when we get there. We would be there around noon. Do you think we would be able to get into our unit that early. We're staying in a 1BR.

A lot of it depends on what day of the week you're checking in. If it's a Friday (when tons of people are checking OUT) you probably won't get in early.

We often check in on Sunday and usually arrive around noon or shortly thereafter. Sometimes we've gotten our villa right away, sometimes we have had to wait.

In any case, you can still go through the check-in procedure and get your room keys; they just won't tell you which room will be yours. Then you can still use the pool, beach, etc. If you have perishable groceries, they will refrigerate them for you until your room is ready.

If our room isn't ready, we usually drop the kids off at the pool and head to the grocery store to stock up for the week while we're waiting.

Good luck!

Hit or miss. We've gotten in at 10 am and as late as 4 pm. Doesn't hurt to get there early. Plenty to do while you wait for your room.

If busy the night before it's doubtful. We got in at 1130am on a Sunday last month, but it wasn't busy.

Depends on when you are going. Last March we checked in at 8:30 am on a Sunday (and so did someone right after us), but there had been a lot of rain the week before and they said some people left early. This year we went in April and were also able to check in around 9am, but it was a week where the occupancy was not high. Other April trips we have had to wait until later in the afternoon. All of our arrival days have been on Sunday's and we always have a 2 bedroom.

We checked in last Sunday(June 5th) at 11 am, and not only was our room ready, but we told her we didn't want the lodge and we were able to choose from 3 diffferent buildings for our 1 bedroom. We picked Building 18, btw.

Us too. I think it really depend on when you get there and whether you have specific requests they are trying to meet.

Just a side note, I've tried to grocery shop late on Sunday. Not a good plan. By Sunday evenings, a lot of families have already started settling in and things at the grocery store were slim picking. No bagels, no waffles, no orange juice, you get the idea. It's nice that the resort will store perishables. Depending on when you arrive, it might be worth a trip to the grocery store first.

Most of the weekly rentals on the island are Saturday to Saturday. If you ever go to one of the grocery stores late Saturday afternoon or Saturday evening, it's mobbed!! Doesn't surprise me that they are "out" of many of the standards on Sunday, especially during the high season!

We had a studio last year for two nights, arriving on Friday and then changed to a 2BR on Sunday when our family joined us. I went to the desk at 8am Sunday morning and our 2BR was available (it had not been occupied the night before). It all depends on the occupancy the evening before and how early those guests vacated, allowing housekeeping to have access to the villas to prepare for the new arrivals.

When we arrived on Friday, our studio was not ready until after 4pm.

Wow - you learn something new everyday! I thought all the 1 BR were in the lodge. We usually get a 1 BR and thought our only option was the lodge - next time maybe I'll ask for another building. I like the lodge just fine, but wouldn't mind trying something else. Anyone have a clue how many 1 BR units are in buildings other than the lodge and the one connected to it?

There are five other 1BRs at the resort -- they are all under the Grand Villas. While it's nice to be elsewhere in the resort, because the HH villas don't have very good soundproofing. Apparently you hear every footstep of the people upstairs.
