HHI - Can You Just Drop In To Look Around?

The first weekend of April, we're going to be visiting down in South Carolina. I was thinking Sunday morning getting up and just driving down to HHI to check out the DVC resort. Is this allowed? Could I just drop in to look around? Since I'm seriously thinking about buying into DVC and HHI is one of the resorts we might would use alot, I'd just like to see what it looks like.

If you're serious about buying DVC, why don't you call a DVC guide and ask them this question. DVC no longer has a sales staff at the resort to show you around, and I'm not sure that they would allow you to tour the resort on your own. But if you call a guide, I'm sure they would arrange for someone to give you a tour.

Thanks, I'll give them a call. This raises another question. When we were down at WDW last June we sat thru the presentation. Frankly, we did not like our presenter at all. Contrary to what we had been told, he was very, very pushy and basically said if we didn't sign on the line while there, we were making a big mistake. We're going down again this June and I'm planning on going over again for a presentation, but I don't want the long complete spiel; I just want to see what the current prices are, what is available, and what the current MB offer is. Frankly we're probably going to hold out until SS starts pre-sells before buying in or if a good resell comes up I may go that way sooner (this fellow also told us that resells were a big mistake). I DON'T WANT the same fellow we had before. Once you are in the computer records with one guide, do you have to stay with that one for the complete process? Can I ask for someone different (who knows my fellow may not even still be there, but I have a feeling he is as he seemed to be have been around a long time).

You absolutly can ask for a different guide and maybe you should. When we purchased our guide put no pressure on us and even gave us negatives about joining. Also when we did our add on at HHI he told us that a resale was also a way to go and that they encouraged resales. He said he would be our guide no matter which way we purchased.

We just stopped by HHI on our way to our member's cruise. We told them at the gate that we were members and wanted to stop in and see this resort - they let us in and gave us directions to the front desk. When we got to the desk, dh decided he would really like to see a room and they graciously showed us one - they can only do that if they have one that is not occupied yet. It was awesome so we thanked the CM and she gave us a map to walk around and see the different bldgs and the resort itself - we weren't able to get out by the beach house - you have to be a guest to get there. It was really nice and we decided that we need to book some time there for a few days.

I would strongly suggest you call ahead. I didn't and was not allowed in. I should have told them I was a member but never thought of it. I just couldn't believe they wouldn't let me in. Still can't.

You can always park at the Shelter Cove parking area and walk across the bridge to DVC. You can see the grounds and setup, but not necessarily a room.

Because there is very limited parking, if the resort is near capacity when you are there, the desk may not allow you drive thru for a look.

As Tommy suggested, if you park in the Shelter Cove lot and walk across the bridge (about 75 yards), you can explore the resort unannounced.

I would suggest going up to the front desk and introducing yourself as a member. If there is an available room, I expect they'll be happy to give you a peek- they will cetrtainly provide a map and a chance to look around.

The best time to do this is between 11:00am and 2:00pm, when they are more likely to have some unoccupied, clean rooms to let you see.
