Ok I saw the pics thread and see pics of the Beach House and the Main. house can some one explain this to me.

I guess the HHI resort is not on the beach? But they do have a beach house? Are they the same points? Can you book one over the other?

Thanks

The beach house doesn't have any rooms to use points for, it is Disney facility/private beach area for those staying at the resort.

You can walk, bike, drive or take a shuttle from the resort to the Beach house. It's a little less than a mile away. There is a pool and restaurant at the Beach house as well as a TV room/ game area - I think, that parts a bit fuzzy.

We greatly enjoyed our stay in May 2006 and look forward to a return trip soon!

Disney's Hiton Head Resort is on the marsh - as the previous poster said, about a mile's walk to the beach front. The resort itself has all of the lodging you would use points for. There are no rooms available on the beach itself.

The Beach House is on the beach, and you can walk, drive, ride a bike or take a shuttle van over to the beach. Once you are there, you have a restaurant - hamburgers, etc. - a bar, a swimming pool with a play area for small kids, a ping pong table, an air conditioned room with sofas and a television, and a lot of space around the pool to lay out in the sun or to find a shady spot and nap. Once you walk to the "back" of this area, you will go through a gate and then you walk down a boardwalk to the beach itself. Once you are on the beach, you can rent chairs and umbrellas from a lifeguard (they are not only for Disney guests, but for anyone on the beach who wants them) or you can use your own chairs and umbrellas.

We love HH and can't wait to spend a week there this summer!!!

We love the HH resort! It really is the best of both worlds. You have the beach house close by (as described in the other answers to this thread) but you also have the marsh and Broad Creek to watch the boats go by. My kids loved the activities that you can sign up for at the resort and we even took the dophin cruise up Broad Creek. The resort is actually on its own little island and right on the Shelter Cove Marina. We love getting up early and walking around looking at the pelicans and boats or at night walking over to Shelter Cove and the shops, resteraunts and live entertainment (kid friendly). The pool at the resort has a waterslide and they have lots of fun stuff that goes on there(pool party, educational walks, campfire stories and songs). We've been in April (sweatshirt weather at night), and June and had a great time both times!

The HHI resort is on the west side of HH Island. Your best views will be of the marsh lands. On the other side (East) of the island Disney has a "Beach House". This is basically a portal to the ocean. It is a small sliver of land that reaches out to the ocean. The beach house does not have any rooms for boarding. It is just a portal to the ocean.

We love HHI for the natural beauty and nature alone... We don't love it for the ocean connection. Believe it or not, I love the nature found at HHI almost as much as the big waves of VB. We'll be back at HHI soon. It is one of our favorites.

I know you don't fly, but we would fly into Savannah airport. Is it an easy drive to HHI from there? Have never been to South Carolina. :goodvibes

It's an easy drive from SAV to HHI

BUT BUT BUT@!@!@!@!@!!!!!

On Fridays nights and esp Saturday mornings it's a NIGHTMARE with everyone coming on island... (normal non Saturday drive time from SAV to HHI is about an hour... but on saturday mornings tack on another hour)

While it's not as bad as trying to drive through Pidgeon Forge (and the like) it is still 2 or 3 lanes filled with a million people trying to get on the island. Grocrey stores are PACKed Friday nights and ALL DAY Saturday.

Great info here! Okay, we would probably do a Sun-Fri stay. I really, really want to eat at Paula Dean's, so maybe on the way into HHI? Hopefully driving out of HHI say mid day Fri. wouldn't be as bad as Fri nite? How close are the grocery store? I guess Monday would be a better day for that!:)

Other posts have also said a 1 bdrm is best at the lodge for marsh views. What buildings would that be looking at HHI's map? Building 11? (Sorry to get OT).

There is a Piggly Wiggly not far from the resort and that's where we shop. It's a bit more pricey than say, target down the way, but it's the closest to the resort and we are lazy. lol

Now.. when we were in SAV for a few days before our last HHI trip, Paula Deans always and I mean always had a line out the door and down the block. So plan on arriving there early if you have any hopes for a table.

We really really enjoyed our time in SAV. It's a lovely city, with great architecture, food, and people! And if you have any Girl Scouts in your mist, Julliett Lowes childhood home is there, and worth a tour :lmao:

... the Lodge is the first big building where check in is and Murge's Dens (I forget the exact name of it.)

We are going to be at DVC HHI Resort arriving Saturday... and question came up: does the Beach House provide beach towels for guests, or should we bring our own? Thanks!

Your beach towels will be waiting in your room. You just have to carry them to the pool or beach. After using them, you may turn them in and request clean ones.

16 of the 21 1BR villas are in Buildings 11/12. The other 5 are located beneath a GV. GV's are located in bldgs# 16,18,19, 28 and 30.

Here is a report with the HH resort layout.

I know you don't fly, but we would fly into Savannah airport. Is it an easy drive to HHI from there? Have never been to South Carolina.

It's about a 45 minute drive from the Savannah airport to HH - when the traffic is good. At some times, it could take 45 minutes just to drive from the interstate onto the island. The drive would be all interstate to Exit 8 and then onto Rt 278 (a good 4 lane hwy) the rest of the trip - but, as already noted, Rt 278 can really be busy - the speed limit is 45 mph over much of the route - with LOTS of traffic lights and traffic patrols. Fri-Sat is the busiest time getting onto or off of the island.

The DVC resort is located pretty much mid-island on Broad Creek - a tidal area that cuts thru the middle of the island. It is located on it's own island - Longview Island - in Shelter Cove.

Here is a map of HH - just look in the middle of the map (purple area) for Shelter Cove and there is a legend marker for the resort.

Besides the horrific traffic, the other thing nobody tells you about Hilton head is - if you don't know where you're going, you aren't going to find out from the signs because a - there aren't very many and b- they're low to the ground and c - they're green and brown just like the surrounding foliage. Even the street signs are tiny and there's no notice that you're coming to the intersection of whatever road it is.

At first glance, it looks like a green leafy place but it turns out there's a whole world of shopping centers and malls behind all that green stuff.

We were there 4 nights recently, and couldn't WAIT to leave.

Wow, terrific info Doc! Thanks so much! I'm printing the map and building layout at this moment. What would be a better day to arrive on the island? On a Sunday?

Hello,
I will be going to HHI for the first time this April..I had a question for those of you who have stayed there before..which building would be the best for us? I wanted something with a water view and close to the pool area. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Sundays are usually a good day to arrive. Even then, I'd try to avoid late afternoon, but it will definitely be better than Friday or Saturday.

I'd suggest requesting (in advance, thru MS) a marsh view villa. I would not request to be close to the pool (unless that's what you really want), since there only three pool-view buildings (23,25,26)and since it's the smallest DVC resort and very compact - all buildings are pretty close to the pool. The pool, store, recreation center and Community Hall are all centrally located - within about 200 yards of anyplace else at the resort. In the pool view buildings there are only 2BR villas - no Studios, 1BRs or GVs.

Have a great trip! :)

If you can get over the bridge on a Saturday by 10 or 11am, it won't be too bad. The summer on Saturdays is the worst and this Saturday for Easter will be bad, too. Sundays will be better but its still better to arrive in the a.m. if you can - the earlier ,the better. We live an hour up the road and just try to get there by 10 a.m. or so if we are arriving on a weekend. We avoid the a.m. and p.m. rush hours on weekdays as well!
