Hi,

The flippin' search engine isn't working. :lmao: I don't why I'm laughing about that.

What is HH like at that time? Quiet? Do they have anything special? I guess weather can be a crapshoot, eh?

I've never been away for Christmas. I'm thinking about trying to get a GV at 7 months for my entire family. Chances? Tough?

Thanks in advance,

Lisa

We have been to HHI quite a few times during xmas week. It's a great relaxing place. Weather has fluctuated from30's(glove and hat weather) to 60's (DS swimming in the heated pools), but there is alot to do at the resort and the island. We love walking the beach anytime, the beach house has another pool and a game room with TV and games(and fireplace). The activities range from cookies with Santa, peppermint ice cream making, southern snowball fights(with rolled up white socks!), dolphin watching, etc. There are great restaurants and lots of shopping. The GV at HHI have fireplaces, I think(we haven't used one), so that would be great. It is also low season for using points during that time. DH has gone golfing a couple of times then. It is just a very relaxing time when compared to xmas at WDW.

I haven't been for the holiday itself, but have the days after and through New Years. The resort itself is full but does not feel crowded whatsoever like it can sometimes in summer. Better yet, pretty much everything on the island is open, but its relatively quiet. Weather can be a cr-pshoot, but comfortable 50-70's is usually the case. The run quite a few activities during this time too. Its actually my favorite time to go.

Thanks guys. Appreciate it. I've only been once before, March two years ago. And I think about it all the time. It has that effect, eh?

Any thoughts on getting a GV at 7 months?

We've actually been thinking about doing Christmas at HH in a couple of years. We're reaching the point where we are interested in going off for Christmas more. Our kids are grown and we have no grand-kids, so we really have nothing to keep us home. This year, for the first time, we're going to spend Christmas at WDW (VWL). Next year though I might would be interested in going to HH for Christmas. It's not a hard drive for us and I could see us easily cooking Christmas dinner in our unit. I wonder if any local churches (we're Methodist) have Christmas Eve services and don't mind visitors attending.

Does the resort fill up for Christmas and New Year's as quickly as it does for Thanksgiving? At Thanksgiving, unless you book at 11 months, it's very hard to get. We're thinking of trying some New Year's, but wondering if it would be as difficult.

Wolfpack,
When we were there for xmas eve in 2001, a church on the island put on a huge nativity play at one of the stables in Sea Pines. They had live animals for the kids before the show. We all sat on haystacks(or if you brought a chair). It was a very professional performance with music and all the lighting and sound of a professional show. It was really very good. It was free and at the end they gave out candy canes with the story of them to all. There was a huge crowd. At the end, the pastor did start talking (it was an invitation to join them..., but it was not a hard sell and many just filtered our over his speaking. We really enjoyed it, it was me, DH, DS(then 11) my BIL and SIL from Ga. We went home, made dinner, watched football and opened gifts. Next day, we again cooked a festive meal and we were in the spirit. don't know if they still do this, the last few times we have not been on xmas eve itself.
